Urge those who represent you in Washington D.C. to work together to help end the nation's public education crisis.
Hello. Let me introduce myself. I am one of the Americans that you represent. I vote, I pay taxes, I contribute to our nation's economy on a daily basis, I follow the laws that you create and/or support, and I do whatever else I can to be a productive citizen of the greatest nation in the world. I do this because this is what every proud American should do. However, there is only so much I can do on my own, and I desperately need your help.
America's public education system is in trouble. Teachers are under attack. Students are constantly preparing for tests instead of preparing for life. Communities lack the support they need to help their children succeed. Programs that do more harm to students' education than help it continue to be implemented. Parents, teachers, and students have little input when it comes to public education. All of this needs to change now, before it becomes too late.
Please consider stepping up for public education by helping America's public schools to do the following:
IMPLEMENT RESPECTFUL REFORM
End the over-reliance on standardized testing in student and teacher assessments.
Increase student, teacher, and family involvement in curriculum decision making.
Increase student, teacher, and family involvement in assessment decision making.
ENSURE FAIR FUNDING FOR ALL SCHOOL COMMUNITIES
Equalize resource disbursement across schools and school systems.
Provide services and support for families specific to community needs.
Obtain full funding for school and neighborhood libraries.
CREATE QUALITY CLASSROOMS WITH SAFE ENVIRONMENTS
Provide more time for teaching curriculum and less time spent on testing and test preparation.
Provide culturally and linguistically responsive curriculum in every classroom.
Reduce class sizes.
With your help, America can step up for public education and ensure not only our children's future, but the future of our society as a whole. I am willing to work as hard as I possibly can on my end; will you promise to do the same on yours?
