Stimulus Money for Homeless Pets

We have spent billions of dollars to bail out the banks that got us into this global financial crisis. The recession has caused a home foreclosure crisis as well, which has dramatically increased the number of abandoned animals while at the same time donations to animal shelters and rescue groups have dropped. Our companion animals and the humans who love them need help. We the undersigned urge the Obama administration and Congress to allocate economic stimulus funds to animal shelters and rescue organizations across the country to rescue and care for those pets whose owners can no longer keep them. These funds will create jobs by funding shelter staff, but more importantly, these funds will save lives and instill hope in all those who care for homeless pets.
Dear President Obama and Congress:

We the undersigned urge you to consider the financial impact the recession and home foreclosure crisis have had on our nation's pets. Home foreclosures are not only a tragedy for the people who lose their homes; all too often, the pets lose their homes as well. Our nation's animal shelters, rescues and foster homes are overflowing with abandoned animals at a time when donations are down due to the economy. Please consider allocating federal stimulus funds to animal shelters and rescues across the nation to rescue, feed, house, spay and neuter and adopt out America's homeless animals.
