Stop badger culling in Wales U.K.

Against all scientific evidence the Welsh Assembly are planning to go ahead with a badger cull to prevent the spread of  bTB in cattle.  A ten year study has proven beyond doubt that culling badgers is costly and ineffective.  Even the Welsh Assembly have concluded that this expensive and destructive process will only reduce the overall rate by 9% at best.  The English Government, after looking at all the evidence, have decided against culling and instead are putting money into a programme of vaccination for badgers which is due to trial in 2010.
The Welsh assembly however, have taken no notice of the vast amount of evidence which clearly outlines the futility of culling as a method of controlling bTB.  Instead they are prepared to throw good money after bad and repeat the mistakes of the past.  This approach will cause great distress among the badger population and affect other local wildlife detrimentally, and serve very little purpose.

Badgers are a protected species throughout the UK and permission needs to be sought to provide licences for culling.  The Welsh Assembly have opened a consultation document and will make a final decision on July 30th.

You can contribute to that process by sending a NO culling message to the address below.  This is REALLY IMPORTANT as someone will send back a response message to each individual,  so high impact!

PLEASE, sign this petition and if you can pass it on.  There are only a few days left now before the close of the consultation process.  It would be great to hit the target of 500 signatures by then.

Thank you for your time and concern.
We the undersigned protest against the use of non-selective badger culling as a method of controlling bTB in Wales.  Scientific evidence has proven that this is not a sustainable and cost effective method of TB control.  We urge the Welsh Assembly to use other methods such as selective culling of only infected animals and vaccination.  This has to be the long term solution as successfully vaccinated badgers will not cause increases in TB due to perturbation.  It's time to try something new.
