Star's life was fairly typical for a bear used in bear baiting events. In one month he was used in up to eight fights with specially trained fighting dogs. Tethered to a post so he couldn't defend himself, eventually his injuries got so bad that he couldn't even stand on his hind legs. But Star was still forced to go into the arena to fight time and time again.
Last month, we rescued Star from this cruelty, and he is now being cared for at a sanctuary. But there are still around 70 bears that remain trapped in this brutal blood sport. Thanks to our supporters, last year we raised enough money to start building a new sanctuary in Pakistan for these bears. We've almost completed work on the first enclosure, and soon we'll be ready to rescue the remaining bears and bring them to their new home.
