STOP ANIMAL TESTING! IT IS CRUEL!

Animal Testing is cruel and harmful. An estimate of 100 million vertebrate animals are used annually in testing. That includes guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, mice, rats, rabbits, fish, amphibians, cats, dogs, non-human primates, flies, worms, cows, sheep, birds, chicks, ruminants, horses, pigs, swine, foxes, and mink. Animals are used for testing drugs, chemicals, cosmetics, diseases, tissue transplants from other organisms, pesticides, air freshener, and other harmful things. These animals used for testing are mistreated and abused. When the scientist or researcher feels that they have gotten all they can from the animal they use one of many cruel methods to kill the organism. Help me stop animal testing by signing the petitons. Help stop testing before there are no animals left.

Picture this: There is a dog on a table hooked to many IV's. There is lab equipment, and carts full of chemicals and tubes with labels. A man walks into the room wearing a long white coat, a safety mask, gloves, and booties over his shoes. He goes up to the cart and looks around until he finds the tube he was looking for, he grabs a syringe and injects what was in the tube into the dog's blood stream. Then he unhooks the dog from the IV's and carries the dog to another room and places him in a cage. Approxamatley 3 weeks later the man walks back into the room with the cages and opens cage 93. He takes the dog he had inserted the serum into and takes it into a different room with lab equipment. He places the dog on a table and examines his behavior, eating habits, and other things. He then takes a blood sample and places the sample on a slide and places the slide under the microscope. He takes notes on his clipboard. This dog has purposly been infected with HIV/AIDS. The disease causes the dog pain and discomfort. The scientist does nothing about the dogs discomfort and places him back in the cage. Weeks later the deadly virus has completly taken over the dogs body. The virus has been destroying the dogs internal systems. Within 2 months after the virus had been injected into the animlas blood stream it had completly taken over and destroyed the dogs body. Also within those two months the virus had killed the dog. The scientist had done nothing to help with the dogs discomfort or pain. This is a direct result of animal testing it is cruel and harmful. Please take some time to read the following facts about Animal testing.

                                  Facts about animal testing

     1. Approximatley 50-100 million animals are used for test and killed annually.
     2. Medical schools, pharmaceutical companies, farms, defense establishments, commercial facilities, and universities all conduct animal testing.
     3. Tests include genetics, developement, biology, behavioral studies, biomedical research, xenotransplantation, drug, toxicology, and comsmetics testings.
     4. Pain relief is only given when teh scientist feels it will not interfere with the test.
     5. Invertebrates are bred and killed as surplus in testings.
     6. 20 million rats and mice are estimated to be used every year in testing just in the United States.
     7. Guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice, rabbits, fish, amphibians, cats, dogs, non-human primates, flies, worms, cows, sheep, birds, chicks, ruminants, horses, pigs, swine, foxes and mink have all been used in testing between 2000 and 2008.
     8. Minnesota,Utah,Oklahoma, and iowa require animal shelters to provide animals for testing and research.
     9. In 2001 UK testing rated teh pain levels of their tests. 39% of the tests caused mild pain. 55% caused moderate pain. 2% caused substantial pain. 4% were unclassified. Unclassified means when teh animal reaches a high level of pain or discomfort it is anesthetized and killed before the animal regains consciousness.
     10. In 2006 670,000 animals were used in tests that did not include more than momentary distress or pain. 420,000 animals were used in tests where pain was relieved by an anesthetic after a period of discomfort. 84,000 animals were used in tests where pain and discomfort was not relieved.
     11. Animals are euthanized (killed) after testings.
     12. Animals are euthanized through many methods. Warning some of these methods may be disturbing to you.
A. the animal can be made to inhale gas such as carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.
B. Decapitation or beheading is used for rodents and rabbits
C. Cervical dislocation or breaking the neck or spine is used for birds, mice, rats, and rabbits
D. Maceration or grinding into small peices is used on 1 day old chicks
E. high intensity microwave irradiation of the brain can preserve teh brain tissues and induce death in under 1 second
F.Captive bolts or a concussion to the brain is used on dogs, ruminants, horses, pigs, and rabbits.
G. Gunshot and electricution are used on cattle, sheep, swine, foxes, and mink
H.Pithing or inserting a tool into the base of the brain
I. Slow or Rapid freezing to death are also used as forms of euthanization

Testing is put into categories: Pure research, Applied research, Xenotransplantation,  and Toxicology

Pure research investigates how organisms behave, develope, and function. They change the DNA of the organism to change behavioral patterns, mutate the organism, and change the characteristics of the organism.

Applied research is used to study diseases and find cures for diseases. Scientists inject HIV/AIDS, herpes, different types of diabetes and cancer into an organisms blood stream and the disease ends up killing the animal before the scientists do.

Xenotransplantation is when scientists transplant organs from another animal into an organisms body to see if the organisms body will reject it.

Toxicology is testing of drugs, pesticides, food additives, packing materials, air freshener, cosmetics, and other harmful chemicals.

Animals are mistreated and killed everyday in test labs. Animal testing is wrong, cruel and harmful to the animals and the people who don't want to see animals being hurt like they are.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and please sign my petition to stop animal testing.
