The Over-Packaging of America

Target:
Return to a biodegradable society, use less plastic, which is petroleum based.

1. To reduce the amount of packaging for products sold in America.
2. To add recycling numbers and symbols to "Blister" and "bubble" packaging.
3,  Add recycling numbers to all plastic bags that can be recycled in community programs.
4.  Simplify and reduce costly packaging.  Bigger is NOT BETTER!
5.  Wrap meats without plastic trays.  Return to fresh meat counters.
6.  Use only <1> or <2> coded plastics for everything so consumers can recycle anywhere.
7.  Place glass, plastic, aluminum recycling containers in highly populated locations.
8.  Place a deposit on all glass, beer and beverage containers.

Does it take an act of Congress for Americans to cut our dependence on plastic petroleum products?  Join the movement today!

Are you tired of eating a 20 second yogurt out of a #6 plastic container which could last two-hundred years?  I am!

I remember when dairy products came in glass or wax-covered paper cups.  I don't think those cups lasted 200 years, did they?  Remember when the milkman picked up the empty milk bottles once a week to be recycled?

Join the petition to decrease the amount of product packaging and to simplify the recycling process!  Read the mission statement and join the movement to stop the overpackaging of America and reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

Thank you for reading this petition.  I think it's really important.

I see the statistics and I want to do my part to cut down on the use of plastic bags.

To help America stop depending on plastic bags I will start using non- plastic bags, right now, today.

I want to save as many lives of animals and ultimately humans.

Use your own bags, and buy fresh food when possible.

As an environmental engineer, I see polluted sites, landfills, and worse. If we maintain this reckless trend, all this stuff will be in our backyards. We have yet to see and experience fully the consequences of our technologies.

I use canvas bags and encourage others to do so. I have written to my local grocery stores encouraging them to sell canvas bags, which they did.

The issue of tens, if not hundreds of millions(if not more) of discarded plastic water bottles is a looming environmental threat.

Re-use & RECYCLE!

I've been concerned about the use of plastics for everyday use for some time now; the impact on nature and the world is devastating!

I've been recycling my plastic bags for several years now; I have purchased several reusable grocery bags and always have a few in my car. I estimate that I have saved at least 6 bags a week for the past 6 months, which amounts to over 150 bags, and that's just one family! I am writing to the editor of my newspaper to get the word out about plastic bag consumption.

Do away with the plastic bottles completely. They are everywhere and not enough people recycle.

What are you going to do to help stop America's dependence on packaging?

We have entered the age of a "disposable" society, but it does not have to be that way forever. It is time to change our ways. It is time to reduce all of that wasteful extra packaging used on products from food to electronics. It is time to start using recyclable plastics to make containers and other plastic products instead of using plastics that cannot be recycled, and are instead sent off to landfills. It is time to change our ways and go back to being a more biodegradable and less wasteful society.

What are you going to do to help stop America's dependence on packaging?

We are a throw away society sad to say - We NEED to do all of the things listed above to protect our enviroment & planet !

What are you going to do to help stop America's dependence on packaging? I reuse & recycle all I can & use canvas bags instead of plastic whenever possible !I also will not buy if to much packaging - it is a needless thing & fills up our landfills - I also get one big package & divide it into containers at home as opposed to getting individually wrapped things .
