Stop PetSmart Stores from Breed discriminating!!
*THIS IS NOT ABOUT GETTING PIT BULLS INTO PETSMART'S DOGGIE DAYCAMP PROGRAM: It's about disallowing PetSmart to reinforce unjust and unwarranted negative stereotypes that their unknowing consumers may believe. It's about having PetSmart not making the fight for Bully Breed rescuers and Breed Specific Legislation fighters any harder than it already is.
Currently, after pressure from the American Kennel Club (AKC) because of this very petition, PetSmart has changed their policy of not allowing bully breeds into their PetsHotels. Let them know that until they take a step towards educating an ignorant public to the true nature of the dogs we know and love we will not be satisfied!

Picking and choosing who can - who can't?? Please.... Don't mind us if we choose not to shop at PetSmart - we can easily spend our money elsewhere.

I think ALL dogs deserve a chance!! Give it to them!!! Training will make them better animals. Why discriminate against animals if you find it wrong to discriminate against people?!?!

Discrimination is discrimination. You continue to sell magazines promoting care of the very breeds you will no longer accept into your Doggie Day Care and other programs. Instead of furthering the myths about these wonderful animals, why not help to educate the public about proper care and training. ANY dog can be dangerous if trained to be. ANY dog can be gentle and loving if trained to be. PLEASE - Don't punish the dogs for the crimes of the humans.

Report abuse PetSmart has already been going down the drain, but I began shopping there again after they agreed to stop selling rabbits. You won't let someone board their dog with you, just because it's different? RACISM should not be allowed, no matter WHO YOU ARE.
PetSmart - PLEASE don't allow this. You are an influential company. You're idiots and absolute hypocrites if you allow yourselves to be fooled by the myths. Why don't you also ban Labs? I've been bitten multiple times by Labrador retrievers. Just recently, a kid at the animal shelter I volunteer at got his hand bitten by a Lab. What? Huh? Would you loose too many customers? You're bloody hypocrites. Why don't you just say all Asians are banned from your store? Or all white Americans? Huh? Why not? You're just as bad now.
Report abuse I will halt my weekly trips to PetSmart if they do not allow these wonderful dogs to visit and be adopted at their location. I have been working with vets and shelters for over 15 years and most of the sweetest dogs ever have been these breeds, and you really can't judge them by the breed. The media just gives them a bad name!
Educate people that these breeds can be wonderful dogs instead!
Report abuse I hate discrimination against any species, animal or human. We all know dogs who are stereotyped because of their breed who have NONE of the bullying tendencies ascribed to them. Petsmart will not be my source of products for my SIX dogs, all rescued, any longer.
Petsmart should be an advocate for ALL pets, not a store which discriminates against some.

Report abuse I think its reprehensible to target specific breeds and discriminate against them. Its not the breeds that are bad, its the people who own them. I will stop shopping at PetsMart as long as they chose to engage in this sort of discrimination.
Help educate the Public that the breeds that are targeted as being "bad" are often chosen to be ill-treated and abused by vicious and sadistic owners who think have a mean dog is some sort of a sign of status.

I have a Staffordshire "bull" Terrier and an American "bull"dog that are smarter and safer than my neighbors out of control springer and lab. This is the problem with america today. I mean Bush is president (twice) and obama may get nominated. This just shows the mentallity of the people in this country.
Report abuse PetSmart originally had a motto that stated "where pets are family". If this is how you treat your family members I would be ashamed if I were you. As a dog trainer and a proud owner of 4 pit bull terriers I think it is not only ignorant but a poor example of leadership to refuse admittance of pit bulls into any part of your business. Pit bulls, like any other breed are going to act the way they are raised. I actually took my youngest pit to one of your trainers for classes. Now that I am aware of you discriminating behavior I will never step foot in any of your stores again, to buy a thing. I am also going to pass the word out to all my pittie people, most of the loyal PetSmart customers, to boycott your services and products and will refer them elsewhere from now on.
Being the #1 pet retailer in the country, you should be educating the public of good ownership and providing a positive image of the pit bull. Banning them from your service is not helping anyone.

petsmart shouldnt just discriminate against the animal they should sell an animal and then have someone check on the animal every 3 weeks or something to make sure the animal is not being treated like a crap and being trained to fight/ be a bad evil mean animal.

They are discrimating again them and i have already wrote them a nasty personal letter. If a pitt is mean, it is because of the owner, not the breed, so don't take it out on all pitts.

Report abuse PetSmart had no problem taking my money to let my pit bull take puppy classes there but they won't let him come to camp.
Maybe you should do invterviews with the animal before you tell them they can't come. You wouldn't tell a black man or hispanic woman that they couldn't work there because of their race!

Instead of banning specific breeds .. why not offer a safe environment for them. No one with a aggressive dog is gonna put them in doggie day care .. or in a pet hotel. You need to realize that and not stand with BSL. We all need to FIGHT AGAINST BSL .. what breed are they gonna ban next? poodles????
Report abuse I refuse to shop in a store that discriminates against any breed of "man's best friend." No particular breed is ever the problem, only bad owners and ignorance.
I feel that it is unjust to pratice any form of discrimination. According to the U.S. Constitution, ALL people are equal. Why does that not translated to the dogs we as people have created?
Report abuse I have a "Bully Breed". His name is Rosco, and he wouldn't hurt a fly. He gets along with everyone and everything.
I think every dog should go through a scanning process with a Petsmart trainer. Maybe have a requirement that they have to have completed at least the beginner level of training before being aloud to attend doggie day camp. That way the dog is disciplined and the trainer knows the dogs personality, and if they would be a good suite for Doggie Day Camp.

If you research more deeply you will see that Pitbulls and alike including mixes make wonderful family pets. The majority of pitbull owners are responsible loving owners who care for their pets. Our money is good enough for you to feed our animals but their presence is not? It's so disgusting that I must like in a world of racism. I now consider PetSmart to be racists.
I will not be shopping at your stores any longer and have already begun to get the word out as to what you are doing. My family and friends will not be shopping at your store any longer either. There are other NON BREED BIASED pet stores all over that deserve my weekly business. Owner of 4 dogs and 1 ferret and someone who you will never see a cent again!
Report abuse I will not continue to shop at PetSmart. The items I would buy would go to my English Bull Terrier, and if he cannot attend PetSmart functions, I guess he won't be able to use their products. This an outrageous display of prejudice against this breed.
PetSmart should work to breakdown barriers and decrease the stigma towards these dogs. I am a nurse and I've seen people have surgery due to a Yorkie bite. ANY dog if inappropriately trained and incorrectly handled can be a nuisance. Bully breeds are not inherently dangerous killers as the media has depicted them. If PetSmart claims to be in favor of animals, they should work to be the solution and not add to it by instituting policies that reinforce this negative stereotype. So if I ever decide to enter a PetSmart again with my Bully Boy, will I be stopped at the door? This is absurd.

it's the owner not the dog and you either allow all or none.
