It's time to work towards the end of religious discrimination throughout our school system!
It's time to work towards the end of religious discrimination throughout our school system!
We the undersigned, in partnership with our sponsor, have realized the importance of the subject at hand.
It has come to our attention, that the issue of religious discrimination in our Nation's school systems, is on the rise. Religious discrimination is just like religious prosecution... people in our school systems are denying people for the reason of what they do or do not believe. This is completely unacceptable.
According to the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". My question is, why is it alright for our school systems to take action against what Congress has already said there shall be no law against?
Religious discrimination is plainly, against the federal laws of our Country. Yet it happens on a daily basis, within the walls of our schools, and out of the mouths of our teachers. We realize that here in America, we support freedom of speech. But that does not give someone of status in our school systems the right to take action against a student who lives by their religion.
And somehow, it's been alright for religious discrimination to continue on. Most people squeeze by, mostly by not verbally expressing that the student cannot participate in certain events or classes because of their religion; but simply by stating it just cannot work out. We do not see that as acceptable either.
We choose action, and change throughout our Nation, for the benefit of the people! We've chosen you to review our petition, and consider the importance. Thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to read our letter.

I am Wiccan, proud of living by the Earth! It's sad that my daughter has to live a life of secrets because she is constantly being told she will go to hell because she doesn't believe in Jesus. I live in a small township that does not recognize pagan based spirituality. My plea, help us to have a place in the communities. Stop the Hate and Educate!

I cannot read Holy Bible in school as 99% of school population are not Christians. Please help young Christians like me who strive to buld a spiritual relationship anywhere-even in school.

Discrimination against students on the basis of religious beliefs needs to stop. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to take a look at their archaic worldview. Religious freedom means freedom for ALL religions, not just a select few.

As a Muslim, I couldn't wear hijab in school because it went against the Christian schoolboard. But it was ok for Christians to wear the cross? How is that fair?

I AGREE I SHOULD BE OUR CHOICE TO WANT RELIGIOUS CHOICE IN SCHOOL. WE SHOULD HAVE OUR RIGHT TO KEEP IT IN SCHOOL. IF THIS HAVE TO BE SEPRATED FROM THE NONE BELIEVER SO BE IT. BUT WE HAVE OUR RIGHT AND OUR FOR FATHER RIGHT SHOULD NOT BE PUT TO THE SIDE THEY KEEP IT UNDER GOD LAW WHERE IT SHOULD STAY.

I was constantly in trouble in high school for wearing my pentagram. If the Christians can wear their crosses then I should get to wear what I want. Now that I've been out of high school for quite awhile I'm sad to say the discrimination is everywhere. I got in trouble at work for answering a question of what religion I was with a one worded answer "Wiccan". It apparently made people I worked with uncomfortable That I was Wiccan that they tried to get me fired. I was told If I ever mentioned the word ever again I would lose my job. I shouldn't have to hide or be ashamed of what I am. :(

Most religions have more in common than not when you look at the basics of the belief systems. Teach the commonalities, and explore the methods that separate them- maybe then we can unite. Stop the discrimination over the details. Be it the Pentacle, Star of David, Cross, Tree of Life, or any other symbol of faith that you honor, we are all working towards improvement for a better life for ourselves, our families and loved ones, and a better environment for our future.
