Stop the barbaric slaughter of Namibian seals

Every year 85 000 nursing Cape Fur Seal pups get barbarically slaughtered in Namibia, for their fur! 6000 bulls are also killed for their body parts to be used in aphrodisiacs in Asia. This is the largest slaughter of wildlife in Africa and goes against Namibia's own Animal Protection Act, which expressly forbids beating an animal to death - according to the Namibian government seals are not classified as animals. Not only are the Cape Fur Seals being threatened by extinction, the quota of pups to be harvested now exceeds the number of pups that are even alive on the first day of the "cull". The excuse that the seal population is adversely affecting Namibia's fisheries is rubbish and research has shown that fisheries are in decline due to overfishing by us humans and bad management, and NOT seals. The Namibian Government refuses to give in to pressure from South Africa or the Commission on Sealing and continues to allow this inhumane practice, which causes extended pain and suffering to the seals as most of them are injured and not killed immediately by clubbing. Have a look at this link if you can handle it: www.liveleak.com/view?i=989_1206722962.
Please help us put pressure on the Namibian government to end this antiquated and cruel ritual by sending a mail to the Namibian High Comissioner in South Africa Mr Philemon Kambala : secretary@namibia.org.za. Alternatively please help by boycotting Namibian tourism, beer and products.
