Domestic violence is hurting someone you know

Stop the Delilah Slot on Chris Evans Show on Fridays

Target:
1000 signatures and Chris to stop the slot

Dear Chris Evans - Please stop doing the Delilah slot on a Friday - I'm sure when you look at the following it will make you think again about this song - especially as you have women and girls as family members, colleagues and friends. This song celebrates a man murdering his wife because she had left him for another man - harmless fun?.

Please consider these facts

One woman every 3days is murdered by her current or ex-partner.

70% of women who are murdered are murdered by their male partners.

The %u201Ccrime of passion%u201D defence of provocation i.e. their partner was having an affair is used by virtually all male defendants pleading not guilty to murder of a female partner and leads to lesser sentences than other murder charges. The sentences awarded for this crime have typically been 3 to 5 years.

1 in 3 women experience domestic violence in their lifetime

The largest Cause of morbidty in women aged 19 - 44 is domestic violence

Thankfully the law is about to change  to ensure domestic violence is treated as other forms of homicide. However - many people remain unaware of the scale and impact of domestic violence on our Society.

I feel that your Friday night slot encourages listeners to laugh along to the stabbing of a woman and men, women and children up and down the Country sing and dance along to it. It also reinforces the idea that a man is justified in taking extreme action if his partner leaves him or has an affair - which is not a crime.

So maybe you're thinking 'have a sense of humour - it's only a song'  if it was a song about child abuse or animal cruelty would you feel the same?

I think its disgusting that domestic violence should be trivialised by playing this record to cheer people up. How sad that society has come to this. Chris Evans needs to stand up for violence against women and refuse to play it anymore.

We deplore vigilante justice in this country but when a man takes it upon himself to punish his spouse for infidelity he is considered well within his rights!!! I don't think so! It is a form of unacceptable abuse like any other and not to be made the subject of cheap laughs! I have never liked this song and another example, country song "Coward of the County" deals with gang rape and yet you have people merrily singing along to it in pubs etc. What is wrong with these people?! Think about what you are saying/singing before joining in!!!

The casual use of this song in what is supposed to be a fun show is totally unacceptable to me. Please reconsider its use, there must be thousands of other songs which could be used to far greater effect.

Woman get hurt this way and in other ways. I am against all forms of abuse towards woman and others. I am a single woman who signed for a blepharoplasty in the US but had my tissue stolen in surgery and now my eyes no longer function. This too is a crime against woman. To read more on this see my petition 'Demand Good Doctors, It's our right'.

AS lighthearted the song may seem when one sings along without realising the content of the song, it actually deals with the subject of domestic violence and is not a thought through choice to start off the weekend on BBC show. I am thoroughly disappointed in the choice song and with the BBC, a governmentally funded body which I AM PAYING FOR! THis is an utter insult to people who have been touched by domestic violence and to those have strong moral grounding. I can't believe it had already been removed once and then brought back due to popular opinion!! STOP using this song! There are many many other songs with positive messages in them.

I feel that this Delilah slot on the show is trivialising domestic violence and should be removed. I think it's thoughtless of the BBC to overlook such an issue.

There are far better songs for groving in to the wekend with Chris; please help us make a stand and let your listners know you don't condone or want to glamourise domestic violence.

It just goes to show that people do not pay much attention to the lyrics of the song if it has been brought back to the show by popular demand. Songs about any form of abuse or violence should never be regarded as "a bit of fun".

Domestic violence against women is not acceptable and should be treated with zero tolerance. Why do men think it is clever to abuse women then have the nerve to blame the victim to escape any form of justice? Chris Evans and the BBC should know better than to promote this despicable crime and should never allow it to be promoted. The BBC is again showing its reason to not trust them and are again showing irresponsibility .

I have always abhorred domestic violence of any kind. This is something that needs abolishing around the world but will it be you who leads the charge by making it known that will not be stood for even in entertainment. We know that there are those who will imitate what they see on stage, television and films. We therefore need to put an end to this plague now and there for e we need leaders to put the laws and guidelines in place. No more slaps on the wrist. Peace and Blessings to All. Rev. Robert E. Spiritwalker Murchison, R.Pp.

Michelle Evans. This slot really shocked me, and that is why I no longer listen to the show, and encourage others to do the same until this is stopped. It is NOT funny, it is NOT harmless, and it is undoing so much good work that has been done to raise awareness of the issues and the shocking and heartbreaking statistics quoted above.

Great fan of the show, but really sad the D spot's back! Having worked with young people around issues of Domestic Abuse, I know how their opinions can be influenced by societal ideas that are reflected in music and the media. Did you know that Sugar magazine and the NSPCC carried out a survey that found 1/3 of teenage girls thought that if they were unfaithful to their boyfriend, he was justified in hitting her?

One of the major things I teach my small son is the hitting is bad and hitting a female is even worse! You joke of murder? That is not funny! What about all of the children that experince and witness abuse and children that lost a parent from abuse? Deep trauma is not funny!
