I want to thank everyone who signed this petition and added your words of support. Due to the overwhelming response recieved by the Million Fag March I have decided to cancel my own protest. On MArch 31, 2008 the people of Kansas came out in force and showed Phelps what real love looks like. After such an amazing display my protest would be barely a drop in bucket. However I could not be happier with how well the message has been sent. Thank you again, and I hope to see you at next years Million Fag MArch.
I am sure we have all heard of the horrific protests staged by the Topeka-based Westboro Baptist Church. They are the ones who have children holding signs at the funerals of war heroes that say such hateful things as "God Hates Fags".
At the trial of one of Matthew Shepard's attackers, a group of Matthews friends who call themselves "Angel Action" decided to do something about the hateful group. They dressed as Angels with huge wings and blocked the church protesters from view. They stood silently through the whole thing until the Westboro church members actually gave up and left.
They showed that these mean spirited biggots are no better than any other bully. I think we need to take a stand and show them that the same laws which protect their hate mongering also protect the rest of us.
I propose this... Let's take our message to them. Let's make signs, dress like the angels of "Angel Action", paint ourselves as rainbows, or anything, and take this to their doorstep.
They have willingly traveled the world to spread hate, we need to take a stand on their doorstep. I would like to hold our own protest across the street, or within the legal limits, from their church. We have every legal right to do so. The only way to stop a bully is to stand up to them.
We need to show them we are not going to put up with their nonsense anymore. It may be too late to set this up for the anniversary of Matthew Shepard's death, but I think that this message can make as big an impact on any day of the year. As of now the plan is for

I am not affiliated with "Angel Action" or the Matthew Shepard Foundation, I simply admire their courage in standing up for themselves and others.

I have made this flyer in an effort to reach those not on the net. if you can copy and paste this please do so, or you can follow the link below. Also have them printed up and post them in your local stores, gay clubs, anywhere you think it might help. These people have already shown themselves to be cowards. I believe that if we get enough people and maybe do this more than once they will take their hate mongering to a country which tolerates them. Thank you to all who have taken the time to read this petition, you are all Angels in Action!

It is Fred Phelps and his ilk that give Kansas a bad name. Granted, we are probably not the most open state of the union, but we are not all bigots and full of hate. The WBC has stood for hate for far too long. They want the attention they are getting because "it spreads their message further." They have every right to say what they say and I can't argue that. But getting their message to fall upon deaf ears to that kind of hate can be our message. We need to stand up to these bullies, but in a way that takes away their fuel. They want to be seen and they want to be heard. That is why we must close our eyes and ears to this group until they have no one left pay attention to them. Yes, they need to be stopped, but as long as they receive attention, it will never stop. Instead of "protesting" them, we need to stand up and support those they are opposing, paying the WBC no attention.

All I have to say to the Westboro Baptist Church is this.... aren't you going to be mad when you get to heaven and realize that God loves me too?? Won't that just knock your socks off.....I can face God every day....can you honestly do what you do and say the same? No, you can't. May God have mercy on your souls, unlike the mercy you've shown for others. You're day will come

Stop blocking the light of God's love with your bigotry and hatred, WBC!
"If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also." I John 4:20-21

This is an amazing quest.
Every god loves all his/her people.
It's not up to us to choose what to preach.
Thank you for making this effort; for them to be so hateful at funerals for our soldiers is just going way too far.
Gods bless.

This has gone on for far too long. It's simply unacceptable to propagate this intense hatred at all, let alone at funerals. Love must surpass hate. I love this idea -- peaceful protest is the way to go. I doubt we will ever change this man's mind, or the minds of many of his followers, but it's worth reaching out. Maybe some of the young children they drag into their warped ideology will get a glimpse of an outside world. And perhaps it will bring more widespread attention to this man's ridiculous antics.
