Holly petroleum refinery in woods cross

stop the petroleum coke power plant

Target:
City of Woods Cross Zoning and Planning

Preliminary approval has been given to Consolidated Energy (CE) to build a large commercial power plant in Woods Cross near the Holly Oil refinery.  This proposal allows CE to burn primarily petroleum coke, a refinery waste product much dirtier and cheaper than coal, and residual fuel oil, a refinery product dirtier than diesel.  Compared to coal, petroleum coke emits higher concentrations of all the major components of air pollution, especially the highly toxic and most dangerous compounds.

We sincerely ask you to consider other alternatives for power and revenue for this great community. Please deny this application and help keep Utah a clean and healthy place to live.

There is already enough pollution in the Salt Lake Valley. Each year the number of days of inversion and subsequent sickness increases. This area is inhabited primarily by families made up of young children who are especially susceptible to pollutants and disease. The cancer rates also continue to go up year after year which in my mind is directly linked to the air and water quality. Please do not allow more of these pollutants to be dumped in our back yards.

Please don't increase our air pollution. It is bad enough already. My husband works outside and if it gets worse we could have to move.

I have respiratory problems which are aggravated by our polluted air. Please don't allow anyone to add to the air problems we already have!

Why are they not converting the petroleum coke into asphalt? it makes no sense for the community to allow this plant. The costs in energy may be low, but the human costs are enormous. This is more than just another plant. This is spitting in the face of the attempts of people to make the world clean and healthy.

Please do not allow this plant to release these harmful toxins into our air. We have enough air quality problems already in the Salt Lake valley.

I can't stand to have this gunk blowing in my window. Give us fresh air! Consolidated Energy: Take your toxic stink elsewhere.

This is outrageous. We don't need the power plant and we certainly don't need the pollution. We already have the some of the worst air in the country - we don't need to add anything to it!

We can't idle a diesel truck longer than ten minutes and you want to burn your waste for profit? You can't keep your accidents down any better than Flying J. Our monoxide detector goes off when we open a window, do we need more unaccountable pollution for no reason. What savings could you make to offset medical costs on human life. Shame on You!!!

I think families and their health are much more important in our community than this factory. Put the factory somewhere else where it won't affect the residents of the community.

I have severe asthma, and so does one of my children. Building a factory like this near me would be even more devastating. Will the company provide me with a check to cover the costs of having my Nebulizer and the additional steroids that my lungs will need to hold up against what they plan to spew into the air? What about my children? Will the company cover the costs if they end up with cancer from living near such a horrible factory? I am completely against this and don't know how anyone could even suggest putting this factory anywhere near residential areas. I humbly request that this power plant not be allowed in this area. It's already polluted enough.

Please prevent this power plant from opening. I have family in the area. They are already suffering from air pollution there. I fear for their health if things don't get cleaned up soon. Please don't permit yet another major pollutor in the area.

Please don't ruin my health so you can save a buck. I deserve healthy air just as much as you do.
