We the undersigned are concerned with NASA's intent of creating  a Commercial Launch Facility on 200 acres of Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. This will seriously endanger important safe lands for much wildlife. We urge NASA to locate an area where NASA will not destroy habitat  for the wildlife & the flurishing ecosystem which exists there now. These areas are rare & need protection at all costs. Please do not destroy this wildlife refuge...

I am signing this because NASA is proposing a New Commerical Launch Facility. Keep this earth being looked after properly first. Thank you. Leave the animals & nature alone.

If they take this area away, they will destroy all the nature, goodness of this area. Once it is lost it is gone FOREVER.

For thirty years I have visited and walked all the land they are talking about wasting. Build your launch pads in the desert where animals and humans will be minimally impacted if they need to be built at all. This land was set aside for a buffer zone between the other launch facilities NASA has and civilians. This land was never intended to be developed.

I work in the aria they are intending to shut down and NASA would personally violate me just as the families were in Shiloh.

I have signed because the natural habitat of our animals is important to me.

I means that my grandchildren and great-grandchildren can see this wonder.

Having seen many of the endangered and threatened species in this park first-hand, the idea of destroying their already limited habitat is beyond me. With other viable land available and the only argument against it being the need for a new or moved security checkpoint, there is no reason that this development should pass.

The protection of the *very* limited habitat of the rare Florida Scrub Jay (being considered for Florida's state bird) is enough reason to shut down the plans for this launch site, not to mentioned the immeasurable impact on the rest of the environment.

The refuge MUST be left ALONE! We all have to remember that whenever the government does something like this, it invites DISASTER, if not for the pure logical reason that the "profit-making" end of the program will make MANY mistakes in and around the area(s) as well! It must be left alone! FIRE the silly top-grade civilian USAF leaders and generals if they are too immature to speak with NASA about availability of old/abandoned launch area facilities that are at Cape Canaveral AFS that could easily be used instead!

I'm a proud member of Space Coast Audubon Society, and work with wildlife rescue as well.

I think that is kind of sad that we know more about space than we do about everything on our planet. Why should anyone give NASA the right to learn more about space and destroy the earth which we know practically nothing about? That somehow doesn't make sense to me.

I AM SENDING THIS PETITION TO VOTE FOR SAVING THE MERRITT ISLAND WILDLIFE REFUGE AND VISITOR CENTER IN ITS CURRENT CONDITION. I BELIEVE IT IS MY DUTY TO SAVE SUCH A UNIQUE AND BEAUTIFUL PLACE FOR WILDLIFE AND FOR PEOPLE TO VISIT.

PROTECTING THIS AREA MEANS THAT WE CARE ABOUT SAVING THESE FEW SPECIAL PLACES ON OUR PLANET FOR THE SURVIVAL OF WILDLIFE AND FOR OUR OWN ENJOYMENT. IT PROVIDES A PEACEFUL REFUGE FROM OUR COMPLICATED LIFESTYLES AND FOR ME IT IS A MEANINGFUL WAY TO STAY CLOSER TO GOD. PLEASE DON'T DESTROY THIS WONDERFUL PLACE FOR ME AND FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. ALTHOUGH I ALSO APPRECIATE NASA, I WOULD NOT PROMOTE SPACE EXPLORATION AT THE EXPENSE OF DESTROYING THIS REFUGE. I BELIEVE YOU CAN FIND ANOTHER ANSWER.

We need to protect as much natural area across the country as possible. Our planet is being destroyed by progress.

If we do not protect our wildlife, who will?

I grew up in South Florida where the "concrete jungle" is the norm. We have the opportunity to keep our natural beauty and resources.

Why have you signed this petition? I am adamantly opposed to NASA's moving into the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. NASA has other areas, already developed, which can be used for this program.

What does protecting this area mean to you As a native Floridian, I have been so grateful that Canaveral Seashore and the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge preserve a part of wild Florida and the species found here. In this era of increased paving of Florida, there are so few areas left where one can appreciate Florida as it is supposed to be. We have allowed unchecked development to force our wildlife into smaller and smaller areas - and areas outside their normal range. It would be a disaster to lose this beautiful area also to development.

This Wildlife Refuge must be preserved & maintained. There are other sites available for commercial use. When are we going to stop this raping of Florida? It's so sad to see it all destroyed.

This site is a National treasure, a jewel of nature. I am shocked and disappointed that it is even being considered for 'development'.

I feel that NASA has enough property on their grounds to pursue their plans elsewhere. The birds and animals are already feeling the pressure of being booted out of their homes by development. Where are they to go. This state has little or no respect for the wildlife, especially areas that are already protected, with coporations and government wanting to, selfishly, take away their protection. Remember, they were here first!!!! before any man!Keep the Merritt Island Refuge as is! It always amazes me that people can squawk about development and such coming into their home coommunity, but who speaks up for the wildlife when their habitats are threatened. NO DEVELOPMENT, PLEASE!!

It is an educational place for people to learn about birds, breeding and their habits. It is a place for those interested in wildlife, and to enjoy the peace and quiet away from noise and the hustle bustle of life inorder to regroup, and cherish God's creatures in their natural setting. The Refuge provides so much for the birds and other wildlife by helping to keep their "heritage" intact?

This is a pristine wildlife refuge that must be maintained. There are other sites available for a commercial venture.

I enjoy this site very much and it would be a crime to close it to the public. It's a "National" wildlife refuge.

Use the existing, former lanch sites for commercial use, rather than building on pristine land.

I can not imagine... not having beautiful Canaveral National Seashore and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.

ridiculous that NASA would waste 200 acres of preserved land for unimportant amusement.

we are losing more and more land. We need to protect our environment

I have enjoyed the Merit Island National Wildlife Refuge since I was a kid in the 70's. Please find a way to reuse an existing, currently unused site so as not to harm the wonderful natural community.

It is incredibly absurd that NASA even considers ruining 200 acres of Merritt Island National Wildlife preserve. Worse yet, adding insult to injury, NASA paid a consultant to come up with this ridiculous proposal. Have they gone mad? They have transformed themselves from the '60s and '70s agency we all felt proud of, to this bumbling bureaucracy that can't even keep their scheduled flights for lack of preventive measures. They are a national SHAME!

If NASA succeeds in convincing Congress to build the commercial launch facilities on these 200 acres, not only they will be affecting uncountable species, many of them threatened or endangered, but it will deny hundreds of thousands of visitors the pleasure of a near pristine area for hiking, birding, and other wise enjoying nature.

Nasa has more than enough empty launch pads! Why destroy any more pristine habit?

More of my state will remain in it's natural state. I have seen this state go down hill in my lifetime. As a native of Florida I am disgusted with what has happened to our wild areas in the "name of progress". More space junk is just what we need. I love to fish in the area they plan to build. When the shuttle is launched you can feel the shockwave rushing across the water. Now with this new project, rumor has it they plan to restrict access to more water in the Lagoon. More areas of Florida restricted to public use. Personally I have never see the benefit (other than employment) of the space program.

Because i believe every thing that we eat should be in it's original form,We should live harmonously with how things were originally created including fuel products,no plastics, no nukes. Everything needs to stay in its original form. If the creator didn't make it, I don't want it for me or anyone else. My suggestion for the people that want to destroy this habitati ,Why don't you build this thing down on the Nevada where you have already destroyed the land and it is useless forever! It is a perfect idea and leave the pristine places to the living!

i just explained what it means to me.It is a home for the indigeonus animals of the citizens of the united states and the children. These animals the government treats with total disrespect are my friends. They are friends to sane human beings. As I write this the goverment is spraying chem trails over the place where I live. You can't even see the hills around the townIt has made me so weak i can barely write this. This an example of insanity. Why would a sane person condone the building of ANYTHING THAT CAUSES HARM TO ANY LIVING THING !?
