We are asking you to join us in the fight against youth and teen suicide here in South Carolina. The week allows survivors to be with others and remember loved ones lost to suicide.

             The number of youth suicides is our nation is staggering.  The Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program (YRSPP) and our partners are working to save lives through this community-based direct, inexpensive and effective program.  YRSPP is accepted and used worldwide, achieving successful results and over 1,500 lives have been saved!

             U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. David Satcher issued his Call To Action to prevent suicide in 1999 and continues to speak of the need to provide help to all people and to address the issue of suicide openly and honestly.

             The U.S. Air Force recently issued a report of their suicide prevention efforts that shows a 78% drop in suicides in the past four years.  They attribute their success to a community-based effort that focuses on awareness of the issue, warning signs and erasing the stigma associated with seeking help.

             Numerous senators, representatives and most importantly, constituents support the efforts of YRSPP.  U.S. Representative Mark Udall, (D) CO is also sponsoring a U.S. House Resolution for the week .
