Tell Ron Paul Rape Victims Aren't "Dishonest"

In a recent CNN interview, Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul stated that in cases of "honest rape," a woman "should go immediately to the emergency room" and get "a shot of estrogen" to prevent pregnancy.

Interviewer Piers Morgan attempted to ask Paul to clarify his statement, which was made in response to a question about whether abortion is warranted if a woman has been impregnated by a rapist.

In explaining what constitutes an "honest" or "dishonest" rape, Paul said that if a woman is "seven months pregnant" and says that she was raped, that's a "different story."

Paul's interview argued his anti-choice position at the expense of rape victims by implying that some are "dishonest." Act now to tell Ron Paul that rape is real, even if a woman is too traumatized to seek medical attention immediately.
We the undersigned are deeply troubled by your recent statement during a CNN interview that in cases of "honest rape," a woman "should go immediately to the emergency room" and get "a shot of estrogen" to prevent pregnancy, but that if a woman is "seven months pregnant" and says that she was raped, that's a "different story.

In the process of arguing your position on access to abortion, you slandered rape victims by implying that some are "dishonest." We call on you to clarify your statement and to acknowledge that rape is real, even in cases where women are too traumatized to seek medical attention immediately.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
