The Legalization of Marijuana in the United States

Fact: Millions of people use and smoke marijuana throughout the United States. Even though it is illegal, marijuana is still sold through the black market and people use it either way. Their is no way to stop the production and use of marijuana to the full extent by the government, and even if this were to happen, people would still go against the government and use it.
Fact: Marijuana isn't just used and smoked so teens and adults can "get high". Marijuana can be used medically to help ease the symptoms of asthma, glaucoma, and other illnesses like aids and cancer (and alot more). It is proven to stop (or slow) the growth of cancer cells in the body, and it has been scientifically proven that marijuana has little to no effect on reducing brain cells. It has also been proven that even though marijuana is a mind altering narcotic drug, their has been no reported deaths from overdose, and no reported severe addictions to it in it's (over) 5,000 years of existence (Note that cigarettes, something that is legal, kills over 400,000 people a year and that same amount of people get addicted to them EVERY YEAR. Also, alcohol is the leading cause of death in the United States at the present moment). It has been also proven incorrect that people lash out, or get angry after smoking marijuana. If anything, the people who smoke it feel relaxed and happy, not angry.
Fact: With the way the United States Economy is worsening, if we do not do something about it, the country could go into a depression for the first time since the 1930's. Their would be massive job loss (as their is now in the recession that we are in... the unemployment rate is at 7%, the highest it's ever been in this country). With the legalization of marijuana, the government can tax and regulate it, thus stimulating the economy by billions of dollars. The United States Economy wouldn't revive overnight, it would take some time, but it has been theoretically proven that it will work. Their is basically nothing else at this point to revive the economy that we are struggling to keep maintained, so legalizing taxing and regulating marijuana is basically one of our last hopes.
Another Fact: Our drug laws are extremely outdated, which is why their is now a war on drugs in the United States. Even if the government wants to enforce prohibition of drugs to the max, people are still going to smuggle it into the country, sell it through the black market, and use it. Thier is NO WAY to completely stop the selling and use of drugs and cut it off to everyone in the United States. So basically, the government is wasting their time when they tell people to not use marijuana or it will be punishable.
And one more fact: Did you know that the United States Government spends millions of dollars to put non-violent first time marijuana offenders behind bars, or at least charge them with fines ? That's millions of dollars that us americans are paying through taxes, just for non-violent, peaceful, first time offenders who use marijuana. These people that smoke pot have done nothing to deserve to be put behind bars. Marijuana is a plant, it's an herb; It's something as simple as that, and yet it gets one peaceful stoner into so much trouble. To me (and probably too many other people), this is nonsense. Law Enforcement should be worried about more serious crimes, like murder and rape crimes, and more serious drugs, like cocaine. The overall lesson here: the peaceful stoner wants nothing to do with trouble. There just peaceful people that smoke pot, nothing else.
God created marijuana, the government illegalized it... who do you trust ?

With all of that in mind, signing this petition would help (probably somewhat) in President Obama's decision to legalize (or at least de-criminalize) marijuana. My goal is to get to at least 1,000,000 signatures. With how many people smoke marijuana on the daily in the USA, plus all the facts that i've just put out their for you (which are real and scientifically proven to be correct), I think I will reach my goal. So please, sign this petition and help to seize the war on drugs, and to legalize marijuana.
