Help Bring E Ala Canoe Back to Wai`anae Coast!

Support efforts to bring the E Ala voyaging canoe back to the Wai`anae Coast.  Many in the community are seeking the State's permission to build a halau and education center for the canoe at Wai`anae Boat Harbor.  Supporters believe that the area between the harbor and Wai`anae High School would be an ideal place for the E Ala.  Background information regarding the canoe is as follows:

The Wai`anae Hawaiian Civic Club (WHCC) organized the building of the E Ala voyaging canoe in 1981. Although the canoe is currently docked at the Maritime Education Training Center (METC) at Sand Island, WHCC, Polynesian Voyaging Society, and many others want the canoe brought home to the Wai`anae Coast to be used for navigational and cultural education.  These groups are asking both the State and the City whether the E Ala can be permanently docked at either Wai`anae Boat Harbor or Poka`i Bay, respectively.

We the undersigned urge you to allow the E Ala voyaging canoe to be permanently dry docked at Wai`anae Boat Harbor or Poka`i Bay.  The E Ala would be stored in a halau and education center located in either the area between the harbor and Wai`anae High School, or the old canoe storage area near the Kuilioloa Heiau.

Mahalo nui loa for your consideration.
