Concerned citizens asking for a variance to the city of Long Beach, Mississippi's ordinance that a person have no more than 3 dogs and 3 cats.
Dear Mayor Skellie,
We recently heard about the situation Mrs Denise Rednour is having regarding her rescued animals that she currently has in her home.
It is our understanding that local Long Beach ordinance states that a resident is allowed 6 pets per household (3 dogs and 3 cats) and we also understand that Mrs. Rednour has 13 rescued animals in her home and was told she had to get rid of 7 by this Friday, January 28, 2011.
We respectfully request that under the circumstances, because these animals are rescues and have nowhere else to go, that perhaps you and the town could maybe extend a magnanimous gesture and give Mrs. Rednour a variance so that she may continue to keep these very well cared for animals under her care. Her love for these animals is overwhelming and quite touching. It would be a shame and a sad and terrible message to her and to society at large if she had to give away her animals, who she considers her family, because of an ordinance that may not be quite about her particular situation. She is a good and caring person who keeps a clean home for these animals and they depend on her for everything. Some of them have special needs that only Mrs Rednour can understand and it's so difficult to find homes for animals with special needs. They often become abused or worse. These are her family. Mrs Rednour cares so much for animals that she often helps to advise people who conduct animal rescue to find homes for the animals they help.
Denise is a kind and dear person who wants nothing more than to live a quiet life, caring for her animals, while trying to help other people when she can. It would be a sad disservice to force her to give away the little bit of joy and love she has in her life.
Is it possible to help her? Please? We are begging purely as concerned citizens and friends of Denise's and also as people who love animals. This is an extremely unusual situation and we can assure you that Mrs Rednour would not abuse the privilege of a variance. Please allow her to keep her animals. They are well and truly her family.
