As you know the current library hours in Londonmet is only from 9am to 9pm and few hours on Saturday and Sunday (Only on Holloway Road). As a result, students don’t really get the best out of their library especially the part time and mature students (which is half of the student population) those who can only study in the evening after their lecture or class. Also the number of international students is massive in Londonmet, a lot of who don’t have the study environment at home (Hostel, rented accommodation) As a result of this students miss their valuable time doing nothing and when the exam and course work deadlines come they struggle a lot because a lot of them don’t have Internet connection at home or the required textbook is only available in the library. Because of these a lot of students fail or don’t achieve their expected grade and some end up with the allegation of plagarism as they forget to reference their work or just copy and paste from internet at the last moment of library hours when asked to leave by the librarians. It is more painful to know that other universities in the same region (Queen Mary and East London) have library hours, which is more student friendly. East London has a 24 hours library and IT facilities and also long weekend openings. Whereas Queen Mary library is open till 12pm and also long weekends. The students on those universities pay nearly the same fees students pay in Londonmet and therefore students in Londonmet deserve a better service, i.e. the longer library hours The Students’ Union, which is your united voice, is seriously looking at the matter and lobbying on be half of you to the University for a longer library hours. So, please, please show your support by agreeing with this petition and letting the authority know that you deserve something better in return for your huge tuition fees.

I think that it is disgusting and a complete failure and disregard for students welfare by the university administration that there is no library on EITHER campus that is open late in the week or weekend.

Some people just study better at night, so let's take examples from the other uni's that already have this.

I generally have the resources/space to usually work from home but still I'm always for supporting other students who aren't in the same position. I would find longer weekend hours useful however. Given the cost of uni we should be entitled to the option of flexible opening hours.

Many uni.'s offer 24 hour opening and students would like that opportunity here at London Met. Uni. Perhaps keeping all five site libraries open late might be expensive so at least one library might consider it?
Holloway Road Library was specifically designed as open access with 24 hour opening in mind from when it first opened in 1994 and has already experimented successfully with extended hours for exams.

I am used to workin through the night when it comes to deadlines and I bet for those without a computer or Internet connection must threat when its deadline time! it would make sense if this was to happen! The libraries we have are great and this would just make them even better!

We need this so when home students have a problem with the internet at home or just their computer in general, there is always the option to go to the library at any time.
Also some students may have different times where they produce the best work, or are more focused, which may not adhere to the standard opening times of the library currently.
International students or those on campus have already been mentioned and I do agree, where are they to go?
Lastly, when students come into uni for lectures and seminars, they may want to stay and continue working. This option is there, though only for a specific time period, which i consider to be restricting.

I think it is a disgrace that so many money is spend by the University into Marketing and PR, but the students currently studying at LondonMet and whose tuition fees fund this marketing, receive only a poor service, not only are half of the textbooks from our reading lists not in the stock of the library, but also we do not have sufficient access to the books that actually are there!

I am LondonMet alumni and I really welcome this initiative. I really had hard times while studying at londonmet with library. It closed too early. I had a part time job and I was coming back late and the library all the time was closed! And especially on Sundays when i was free the library was not open most of the day so it was really hard. I would welcome this action!
best
Olya

Scholarship being a time-consuming endeavor, it only logically follows that the University libraries remain open for as long as possible.

I believe the library should be open longer hours because at present, I cannot use the library on Sunday and on Saturday the hours are limited, especially with regard to the computer facilities which are shut down very early in comparison to other Universities up and down the country (of whom, open 24 hours).

A 24 hour at North Campus would be a great idea especially when i have classes that finish at 9pm and i need to do research for the next day. I would definitely use it and i know most of the other Performing arts students would do too.

perhaps even more important than later weekday opening times is the need for weekend availability at city campus/commercial road etc. this would be a huge help to many students!

Even if the counter closed at 9pm and you couldn't take out books then, I know some unis do that, but we need something later than 9pm! I'm sick of having to blag my way into UEL!

Libraries should open 24 hours and open early in the morning at 8am for example. At weekends all libraries should open at the same time as during weekdays.

I'm a London met student and I find it hard to study with the time limit to the opening and closing times. most London universities have a 24hr services and after 9pm self service takes over. I know it would help me to study for exams..

Liverpool John Moores (another ex polytechnic) has a 24 hour Learning Resource Centre, why can't London Met? If anything, our need is greater because of the amount of part time/mature/international students we have. A 24 hour accessible L.R.C. is not only a facility which would be useful to all students, it is a facility which we are owed in return for the massive amount of money which we pay in order to attend London Met.
