We The People Demand That All Kill Buyers Of Equines Be Registered At Auction As Killers!
As equine advocates, we see too many equine owners unknowingly sell their horse or pony to kill buyers at auction. We are demanding that all slaughter buyers be registered at all auctions. When a horse is won by a registered slaughter buyer, the owner who sold the equine must be notified and given the option to refuse sale to the kill buyer, and refund any payment if applicable. If a kill buyer fails to register and is reported with proof, they should face a fine up to $5,000 for breaking the law.
Many equines that are won by kill buyers would never end up in a kill pen or slaughterhouse if the owner had known their horse was sold to slaughter. These horses and ponies are not "just livestock" these are people's family members, dearly loved children's ponies that are now too small for the child to ride, and friends they sometimes are forced to sell for various reasons. This problem is not just limited to adult horses. People are unknowingly selling foals, yearlings, and pregnant mares to kill buyers. The guilt, emotional pain, and suffering that people experience when they find out they sold their horse for slaughter is overwhelming. The owners are just as much a victim as the equine sold to slaughter, and it's unjust. This can be stopped for good, if this law is passed. Please hear our voice and make this into a law for the sake of the people and animal victims of this tragic on-going problem.
