Ban Plastic Bags in Major Retail Stores

"Worldwide, a trillion single-use plastic bags are used each year, nearly 2 million each minute."(as stated by researchers at Earth Policy Institute).

Many stores in Canada now charge consumers for bags sadly this isn't enough to protect our oceans and world. "Around 8 million tonnes of plastic went into the ocean in 2010, according to the most comprehensive study of plastic pollution so far."(as cited in abc science article by Plastic and how it affects our oceans By Genelle Weule

Animals are eating plastic, marine life gets tangled in it. "...plastic bags we use in our everyday life take 10-1000 years to decompose..." (by Rick LeBlanc from the balance smb)

I am not perfect at eliminating plastic from my life I don't claim to be. However, I believe if we made little changes together it would have a big impact.

The goal here is for BIG retail chain stores to not use single use plastic bags to carry our groceries home in. Instead, let's reuse what the stores already have like the shipment boxes which are empty and ready to use. This may not be a perfect solution, but the ocean life would appreciate this change. As well as the people who are working hard everyday to clean the oceans, and the generations to come that would hopefully see whales, turtles, dolphins and fish rather then read about them in text books.
