Tell Kmart: Don't Make Employees Work on Thanksgiving Day!

Department store chain Kmart remained open on Thanksgiving Day last year, and they plan to do the same this year. Kmart allowed employees to sign up for times they'd be able to work on the holiday, but it is not giving all employees the option to stay home to share a meal with their families.

Some Kmart locations report that they plan to stay open for the entire day. As of November 12, a survey of 40 Kmart workers in 18 states reports that 95 percent still don't know if and when they will have to work on the holiday. This prevents families from coordinating their meal and travel schedules ahead of time to spend time together.

Opening on Thanksgiving will not translate to higher profits. Shoppers will simply shift their purchases to an earlier time, resulting in lower Friday sales. Please sign the petition to urge Kmart to stay closed on Thanksgiving Day so that families can spend the day together.
