SAVE ART AND CULTURE FOR HOLMES COUNTY, FL!

  • by: Mishca Randall
  • recipient: Steve Southerland - Immigration Representatives - Small business Development of NW Florida

The Silver Door is a unique art studio, set on a 13 acre mini ranch, bringing a much needed arts facility to Holmes County Rural communities and surrounding regions where there is a limited art curriculum. The Silver Door provides much needed art expression and culture to our area.

The problem is that the immigration department may not renew their L1A visa allowing them to continue their multiple medium, educational, art/farm center.

We need to let the immigration department know and understand that the Art Center and the Templetons are a much needed and wanted asset to our community and all it takes are a few seconds to sign the petition.

The Templetons have been fighting with all they have to keep their girls and their way of life here in our wonderful community. Even if you do not live in this community, it is important, if you believe in art expression, to help this family stay here and operate the Art learning center, as they work towards gaining permanent citizenship.

There is a sense of urgency because once the time runs out on their current work visa, Carla and her daughters (who have integrated into our community for 2 1/2 years and call this home) will have to leave and then shortly thereafter, Carla's husband Mark will have to leave. As Carla stated when I asked her " The urgency, besides it being our dream and passion and future for our teenage daughters, it makes a big part of our livelihood.

Given the opportunity they have a broad expansion program which can provide much needed job opportunities to the area. They also would provide an economical addition to the other local merchants and business owners as people who come to learn at the center will bring revenue this area.

Last but not least, they provide an outlet for expression through art for kids and adults in this area who have no other avenue for this much needed asset. Through the art learning center, people can learn to express themselves in a healthy way and can then pass this passion on to others. They are hard working, generous people who have worked hard to establish a business, a home and MANY friendships here!
