My wife is in 'high risk pregnancy' with no health care, $$$ Canadian government doesn't care!!

My name is Carey McGregor and I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. My parents and Grandparents were also born and raised here.

I moved to Taiwan in 2005, met my wife who is from Taiwan, married in 2007 in Ontario, Canada. (Ontario marriage certificate) Had our baby in 2012 in Taiwan (automaticially Canadian) and relocated back to Canada in 2012 so we could offer our child a healthy & safe environment to grow up in.

Being married is only a part of the process for my wife to attain a resident visa. It takes almost 2 years for the papers to be processed and there is NO private insurance that covers pregnancy or delivery of a child. SO, if she were to become pregnant during those 2 years, the ONLY option is to locate $10-20,000 to have the baby in Canada. This is the situation we're in!!!

My wife is pregnant, her paperwork is in process, and she has no health coverage, which means our only option is to pay the incredibly high hospital bills to keep my wife and unborn baby safe, which we can't afford, and the Canadian government doesn't care? My wife will need to have a c-section which will put our bill close to $20k. Now she's in a high risk pregnancy, so doctor visits are more frequent.

We have pleaded with Jason Kenney, PM Harper, Deb Matthews, MP's, MPP's, Service Ontario, Service Canada, Jinney Sims the immigration critic, and for the most part, we have been ignored!! This means that the 'Canadian legislation is putting our unborn baby's health at risk' because we can't afford that amount of money AND THERE ARE NO OTHER OPTIONS!!!

There are 3 groups of families to consider here. The families who have already went through this crap, the families who are going through it now like us, and the families who are here and want to have children but can't because there is NOTHING in place to enable that to happen, because really, who can afford $20000 to have a baby, and then continue to financially support a family there on after???????????

The number of Canadians traveling these days is incredible, and when you stay in a country for a year, or 7, you tend to date and fall in love, get married, have babies and want to move 'HOME' < Canada>

We have considered going back to Taiwan to have our baby, but that's not even feasible, we would lose the $550 deposit on the visa application, the application would be thrown out and would have to start over, and customs from what we hear wouldn't let my wife back into Canada after leaving, because we already started the visa process. And besides, it took us a year and a half to make the move. Do you know how much is involved in relocating your family halfway around the world and starting over with a baby?? We had a life in Taiwan and we gave it ALL up to move back 'HOME', and now look at what is happening to us,, incredible!!!

Legislation needs to change, or at least offer born and raised Canadian's families some scenority over new immigrants. 2 years to process papers? That's rediculous,, imagine you being in our situation,, not cool!!

High risk pregnancy with no response from CND government? Where are their values? Look after your own, I AM CANADIAN!!

You know our story well, and you have done a good job of not responding to our concerns.

Who has $10-20k to have a baby in Canada? Why are the waiting times so long, 12-18 months? What options are in place if she gets pregnant during that time? NONE, and that's the problem. Private insurance doesn't cover pregnancy/delivery, and what is a young family to do, just not have children for 2 years?

This isn't only a Federal problem, it's also a provincial problem, but it starts with immigration.

My family is 3 generations in Canada, and my wife is treated like a foreigner, we were married in Canada, our son is Canadian, now we're pregnant and we have no options, why?

This is a problem that needs to be changed, not only for us and I will do my best to bring it to every media outlet I can find.
