Petition for Changes at Animal control

Target:
Stanly county, NC residents
Sponsored by:
Request to terminate employees at Animal control for numerous reports from the community of animal abuse, animal cruelty, poor job performance, insubordination and being insolent, uncivil and unprofessional to the public.

1. We want money allocated to fixing and expanding the shelter.

2. Find the missing play area, where people who want to adopt, can sit in a quiet area with the pet.

3.Have a separate area for cats, away from the dogs, with an area to run, not tiny cages where they sit in filth and crawl all over each other.

4. Add more hours to Saturday and add Sunday hours, to increase pet adoption rates.

5.Lower the adoption fee to seniors over 50, who wish to adopt, and give a discount to anyone who wants to adopt normally less popular pets, such as older cats and dogs, or with minor health problems.   Providing that the new owner is aware of the problem, the cost of any vet bills, and have the income to provide for them.

6.Set out collection barrels for pet food at local grocery stores and donate it to the Animal rescue league foster parents, and anyone who has an economic, temporary need for food for their pet. These would be given to crisis assistance food pantry for distribution.  Any food left over, would be given to Animal Control.

7.To solve the problem of pregnant animals and puppies and kittens that are too young to be fixed, here is your simple solution:When an under age pet is adopted, the owner is given a gift certificate to a local veterinarian, who, when the pet is old enough, will do the procedure and any vaccinations that are needed, that cannot be done before.

Science has shown repeatedly and convincingly that other animals have minds and emotions so like our own that their joy and suffering is essentially indistinguishable from our own joy and suffering. Why is it so impossible for the human animal to evolve?

It is our duty and responsibility to take care of the ones that can not take care of themselves. There are people who would be willing to do that job and do it right, not just to have a paycheck. An animal shelter is a place where employees need to be carefully scrutenized because of the vulnerability of the animals and inability to make complaints in their behalf. There needs to be more accountability for ALLshelters. We need to remember that the taxpayers own and foot the bill for them. And that they(employees) are accountable for what they do. There should be inspectors ,independent of the department that operates the shelter, that inspect on a regular basis and they should have access to ALL parts of the shelter.

I think the employees need better training with handling the animals in order to make them more adoptable. Kindness toward the animals goes a long way in making the animals less fearful. It is all in how you speak to them and interact with them. Animals can tell who is kind and who is not. They learn to trust the kind people who care about them. After they trust a person they make that person a wonderful companion. It can be a very rewarding experience to see an animal learn to trust and love again.
