Make it law that accidents involving cats must be reported.

There should be penalties if people fail to report an accident involving a cat. Many an owner finds their cat dead or alive in pain, many hours after the incident, and don't have the opportunity to help the animal or remove his body from the road, immediately after it has happened. Enquiries should be made locally after an accident and a report to police, as with dogs, should be necessary and required by law. Leaving a cat injured or dead in the road is not acceptable.

In memory of my wonderful white Persian, Sooty.

Please would you consider making accidents with cats reportable, as it causes so much heartache for owners when they are left for dead and not informed for hours by someone who perhaps finds the cat.   Sometimes the cats drag themselves into bushes to die and are never found.   At least if the owner knew there had been an accident, they could search in that area.   Cats are not wild animals, they are much loved pets and deserve to be treated in the same way as dogs.

I have printed most of the petition, but as I have had 100 plus signatures in the past 10 days or so, I will see if the petition can reach 1,000 before I submit it to the UK government (local MP), RSPCA UK, and DEFRA UK. Thank you all for promoting it. Hopefully it will do some good.

Thank you for signing this petition.
I am going to print it, and close it now, and send it to DEFRA, local MP and RSPCA (UK).
You may want to start a similar petition in your own country.
We need everyone to respect and have compassion for our pets, stop, check animal and try to find owner.
Injured cats can be taken to local vets for treatment without charge in UK.
Local authorities do collect animals if advised and should check microchips for owners.

Thank you for signing my petition, Make it Law that Accidents with cats have to be reported. In answer to some questions, I intend to present the petition to a local MP to bring up in the British Government Parliament. Unfortunately cats are considered wild animals in the law, whereas an accident with a dog has to be reported. This is obviously going on in other countries too, the laws need to be changed.

Thank you for signing my petition, which I started in memory of my beautiful big white Persian ,Sooty, (named after the Sooty hand puppet which he looked like when born) who I had for 12 wonderful years, from the age of two hours (caesarian birth). Left on the road overnight by some horrible people who I think deliberately ran over him. He went out about 8 pm on April 30th, so it was still light. So far, we are half way to the 1,000 total, please share some more, thank you.
