Do Not Lay Off Our Invaluable Teachers Like Mr. Brian Ranger & Mr. Michael Cesaro 2016!

Yet again we are faced with losing some of our best teachers. Rumors of various cuts have already started circulating.
Every year we have to fight to keep some invaluable assets to our schools & children, while others teachers who may not be as valuable remain. It's getting very old! Last year at a meeting, we stated that we would not go through this again.

Although the petition names only a couple of our great teachers in it's title, this petition applies to multiple valuable teachers that we stand to lose, and who have received lay-off notices. We, as Parents and a Community, refuse to let these invaluable teachers go.

This is the Third year in a row we are having to fight to keep Good Teachers for our children. Get these evaluations right!

ACS Board of Education,

It seems to be yet another year of making cuts due to the effects of State issues and declining enrollment.     The teachers and our students always seem to be the ones taking the hits when it comes to “saving money”.

An issue of great concern, once again is the recent layoff notices received by some of our teachers.  Although it is usually stated they “may” be called back this cannot be guaranteed.  It is the teachers that are the first stepping stones on the path to student achievement.

Teachers such as Mr. Ranger & Mr. Cesaro have been a very influential part of many children’s education during their years with our district.  Not only are they IB Teachers and individuals that care for their students; They also extend their caring and positive influence to ALL students.  They have provided many students the tools and motivation to not only enhance their Academic performance but also have a positive impact on students futures as both a role models and mentors.

Under Coach Rangers instruction the Wrestling program has also made wonderful advancements, bringing it back to its glory days as in years past.   Mr. Cesaro is always there to lend an extra hand whenever and wherever it may be needed; as evidenced by his Coaching of our HS Baseball team.

To lose either of these two wonderful Teachers and others like them would be devastating. These individuals teach our students respect, demand academic achievement and in general care greatly about the kids and their roles as teachers.  Kudos to the individual or individuals who had the wisdom to hire them. It would be a significant loss to lose faculty such as these because of the continual lack of employment stability in our district.    These individuals have lives with children and families that depend on them.  To subject them to this turmoil year after year is just NOT right.

We do have these concerns. As the parents and children of Algonac Community Schools have already given up so much during this Consolidation process in an effort to help balance this Districts Budget.  It would be a tragedy to lose their most valuable tools, Our Best & Brightest Teachers.

This is the third year that these two teachers are seeing layoff notices. Also the third year in a row we as parents have had an outcry about the layoff process.  You would be hard pressed to find may HS parents who find Mr. Ranger & Mr. Cesaro are anything other than Highly Effective.

Our BOE needs to RESEARCH & consider other Money Saving cuts and options before laying off the most Valuable Assets to our children education.  We would also ask they address the current evaluation process to ensure they have a fair and realistic procedure in place for the future.

We hope these things are taken into consideration before the Board takes any further measures on voting and implementation of the upcoming proposed final budget cuts and layoffs.   Cutting costs in other areas should be considered to help save the jobs of teachers who benefit our children.

Sincerely,

ACS Students, Parents, Stakeholders, & Other Interested Parites
