The Chinese Bahaba or the Giant Yellow Croacker is a giant fish that lives only in the South coast of China between Yangtze River and Hong Kong . It was discovered in 1932 by Albert William Herre, till late 1960 more than 5600 tonnes were fished because the traditional Chinese medicine believes in its powers to heal . The fishing continued and  the Chinese Bahaba became so rare. It now classified as Critically Endangered in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) red list.

Major threats are commercial fishing . At the  very high price of 473,000 $ a 80 kg Bahaba fish was sold  in 2012. No action is made from the Chinese Government to protect it and stop its fishing .
