The Ft Bend County Animal Shelter is overwhelmed by the volume of animals they must bring in! We call on the city council/government to improve conditions for the animals by investing in a larger facility to house the animals and become a NO KILL shelter. There is proof this can can be done by following the procedures that other large cities have utilized to become successful no kill shelters.

With the rapid growth of Ft Bend County brings more animals to the area and to the shelter. This also means more money coming into the county due to the population growth and expansion. Why hasn't the proper amount of Money, Time and Resources been allocated to animal services to obtain a larger facility and to become a no kill shelter. We are saddened by what we see at the shelter itself. It's short staffed and needs more support. Due to this being a high kill shelter, most of the wonderful animals are not given a chance ( certain breeds may get no chance ) to be adopted or fostered and are euthanized quickly due to their limited space. The volunteers and staff try to get information out on the animals but the majority of the animals do not even get photographed or listed on the website.
You need to Educate the Public about the facility as most of the county's population etc is not aware of the shelter or its procedures.

Here are the action items Ft Bend County Animal Shelter needs to take, many of which are standard codes and regulations they should already be in compliance with.

*Become a "no-kill” shelter, reserving euthanasia only for the most dangerous or terminally ill animals.
*Use a licensed veterinarian to provide basic care and, when euthanasia is strictly necessary, perform the process as humanely as possible.
*Control the infectious diseases within the facility such as kennel cough and other highly contagious illnesses including parvovirus etc.
*Hire a Staff Director with a background in animal welfare who is both compassionate and properly trained in proper shelter procedures and follows the steps to become a no kill facility.
*Ensure that all animal control officers are properly trained in state guidelines for the care and capture of animals.
*List ALL animals at the shelter online with a photo and ID, as current records are inaccurate. A large amount of the animals do not get photographed and are not listed on the website.
*Educate the Public and residents of the County about the facility and procedures and provide information on the options of adoption or foster.

Please sign the petition to help these animals! By taking these steps, fewer pets will be put down and more will find loving homes or be reunited with owners.
