Tell Congress to Ban Growth Hormones

U.S. citizens struggle even for laws that allow hormone-free labeling so that consumers have a choice. This should be an easy black-and-white decision for all regulators and any corporation that is really concerned about sustainability: give consumers the information. We deserve control over our food choice.

We, the undersigned, are writing to you with regards to laws on hormone-free labeling so that consumers have a choice with regards to the foods they eat.  There are companies that take it upon themselves to label their food, which is laudable on the part of these companies.  However, we are deeply concerned that it is not federally required of companies to give this sort of information.  This should be an easy black-and-white decision for all regulators.

As consumers in a free society, we deserve control over our food choices.  The foods that we consume affect our health over the long term.  If we as consumers do not have the correct information upfront, it is not a stretch of the imagination to see how the unnecessary hormones that we consume adversely affect our health as a country.  If a single person regularly consumes foods containing hormones, then it is a single person who regularly consumes foods containing hormones.  If a significant majority of the people in a country regularly consumes foods containing hormones, it becomes a serious concern with regards to health care.  By requiring that companies label the foods they sell regarding what they use in raising it, more people have the information to make the healthier choice%u2014which over the long term can greatly reduce the cost of health care.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.
