Save the Noosa Tafe for an art collective for the Sunshine Coast

  • by: Tricia Bradford

At present the Noosa TAFE buildings are not in use and I would like to suggest that the buildings and grounds be used as an art collective for the Sunshine Coast.

This would offer an immediate solution to the safety of the buildings and provide an ideal outlet for the artistic and creative community of the Sunshine Coast which would benefit the area in many ways:

  • provision of an exciting outlet for many artisans to display and sell their work
  • an attraction for tourists and local people
  • financial benefit for the participants and for the community
  • educational facility
  • opportunity for the public to see the works in progress

The main art buildings to house a large number (40 to 60 depending on space and requirements) of individual galleries for 2 and 3 dimensional art, crafts including ceramics, leather, wood, glass, fabric and other media.

Space would be set aside for lectures and workshops.

Each artist would be in charge of his or her display and could work on site, give lectures, run workshops and would volunteer one or two days within a determined time frame for the reception area.

The reception area would meet and greet visitors, direct visitors to the display areas, provide information and look after the galleries of absent artists.

All duties for the galleries would be carried out by volunteers.

A coffee shop would be made available and run by an external professional business.
