Demand Health Insurance Equity For Women

Health insurance has come a long way since the passage of the Affordable Health Care Act. But it appears that many marketplace insurers are getting away with withholding treatment coverage for women. The fine print of many policies allows these insurance companies to withhold coverage for a variety of services most often used by women. Most alarming is the exclusion of maintenance therapy for chronic diseases. This has sweeping implications for women with diabetes, heart disease, kidney failure, and many other health issues.

Please join me in asking the United States Department of Health and Human Services to require insurance companies to cover Maintenance therapy for a chronic diseases and to review Affordable Health Care Act to make sure there are no further unwitting discriminatory practices against women.

Dear Health and Human Services:

It has come to my attention that health care insurers have found a number of ways to discriminate against women. Most alarming is the exclusion of maintenance services for chronic illnesses. Treatment for chronic illnesses must, by definition, be maintained if the patient is to stay alive and remain functional. This exclusion has sweeping implications for women with diabetes, kidney failure, heart disease, and many other ailments. Please require insurance companies to cover Maintenance therapy for a chronic diseases and to review Affordable HEalth Care Act to make sure there are no further unwitting discriminatory practices against women.
