Judge sends honor student to jail for missing school

. 17-year-old Diane Tran is working two jobs and going to school. She is working to support her brother and sister. Their parents divorced and moved away, leaving them on their own. Judge Moriarty wants to put her in jail for 24 hours and pay a $100 fine. She should be lauded and rewarded with mercy and compassion, not thrown in jail. Ms. Tran is worried also if she should go to jail that this would be on her permanent record.

This judge wanted to use her as an example. I'm sure there are other students in his district who have missed a lot of days of school. Why use an honor student who has the burden of taking care of her siblings be the one chosen for punishment?
