At least 52 people died after a strong earthquake off the coast of Guatemala; many more people were trapped under rubble that crushed homes and cars, destroying roads. Most of the dead were buried under debris in San Marcos state, a mountainous region near the Mexican border. Landslides triggered by the 7.4-magnitude quake blocked highways and complicated rescue efforts.

It was the strongest earthquake to hit the Central American nation since 1976, when a 7.5-magnitude quake killed more than 20,000 people. The latest reports indicate that around 100 people are disappeared, and 155 injured; many more have been displaced from their homes and some roads have been blocked by landslides.

The Guatemala Peace and Development Network (GPDN/RPDG) –a network of Guatemalans and friends of Guatemala in the United States and other countries— urge president Obama to not to forget the current plight of the people of Guatemala, we urge you to exercise your executive powers to address the dire situation of Guatemalans living in the United States by directing the Homeland Security Department to grant Guatemalans a Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

We urge people in the United States to show their support and solidarity with the people of Guatemala BY SIGNING THIS PETITION, the petition will be send to President Obama, and ask him to exercise his executive powers and grant Guatemalans living in the United States a Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

 

We also ask that you make a donation for a relief fund that will be used to assist the victims of this earthquake.

Al menos 50 personas murieron en un fuerte terremoto frente a las costas de Guatemala, muchas más personas quedaron atrapadas bajo los escombros de las casas dañadas, carreteras también fueron destruidas. La mayoría de los muertos se localizan en el Departamento de San Marcos, una región montañosa cerca de la frontera con México. Los deslizamientos de tierra provocados por el sismo de 7,4 de magnitud bloquearon las carreteras y los esfuerzos de rescate se complican.

Es el terremoto más fuerte que ha sacudido a la nación centroamericana desde 1976, cuando un terremoto de 7,5 grados de magnitud mató a más de 20.000 personas. Los últimos informes indican que alrededor de 100 personas están desaparecidas y 155 heridos, y muchos más han sido desplazados de sus hogares y algunas carreteras han sido bloqueadas por deslizamientos de tierra.

La Red por la Paz y el Desarrollo de Guatemala (GPDN / RPDG) -una red de guatemaltecos y amigos de Guatemala en los Estados Unidos y en otros países- pide al Presidente Obama a no olvidar la situación actual del pueblo de Guatemala, le instamos a ejercer su poderes ejecutivos para hacer frente a la grave situación de los guatemaltecos que viven en Estados Unidos instruyendo al Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS) conceder a los guatemaltecos que viven en los Estados Unidos un Estatus de Protección Temporal (TPS).

Instamos a las personas en los Estados Unidos para mostrar su apoyo y solidaridad con el pueblo de Guatemala FIRMANDO ESTA PETICIÓN, la petición será enviada al presidente Obama.

También le pedimos que haga una donación para un fondo de ayuda que se utilizará para ayudar a las víctimas de este terremoto.
