Save the Spit - Stop over development on Sea Island, Georgia

  • by: GreenLaw
  • recipient: Glynn County Commission

Join residents and concerned citizens everywhere in a campaign to stop absentee hedge fund investors from developing 7 acres of land in a fragile and eroding part of the southern tip of Sea Island called "the Spit". Multiple environmental groups are working to protect homeowners, sea turtles and 144 species of birds, including the endangered Piping Plover, that use the Spit.

Dear County Commissioner,

It has come to my attention that Sea Island Acquisition LP. has been approved by the Islands Planning Commission to proceed with the development of 7 acres of the southern tip of Sea Island known as the "Spit".

Developing this part of land will put birds and sea turtles at risk in a fragile eco-system. Not to mention the inconvenience to neighbors and potential danger to their property during a storm.

The fact that FEMA will not even insure this property should be a clear sign that this land should not be developed. Additionally, erosion rates over the past 10 years prove that building anything here is risky.

I am asking you to overturn over the decision to allow development and to protect this ecologically sensitive piece of land for birds, sea turtle and human enjoyment.
