Congress just passed Keystone XL. Support President Obama's promise to veto!

For the first time ever, the Senate just voted to approve the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, and now the climate-killing bill is headed to the White House.

Tell President Obama: Keep your promise, and veto Keystone XL! Then take a stand and permanently deny the deadly pipeline's permit!

Keystone XL is no ordinary pipeline, and it is not in anyone's best interests -- except Canadian oil companies and the billionaire Koch brothers. The pipeline would carry 380,000 barrels of Canadian tar-sands oil, one of the dirtiest fossil fuels on earth, across America’s aquifers, farmlands and wildlife habitat. NASA's top climate expert says it could mean "game over" for the climate, its mining process is devastating for First Nation tribes, and its pipelines are far more likely to spill and harm local communities. Then the oil will be exported to foreign countries.

Tell President Obama you'll support his decision to veto Keystone XL, and ask him to deny the pipeline's permits once and for all!

Dear President Obama,

Keystone XL will contribute to climate change and fails the climate test. It fails every other environmental and economic test, as well. Thank you for taking a stand and vowing to veto any bill that would force approval of this pipeline. You bold action will protect the air, water and quality of life for Americans and America’s wildlife.

I will support your veto and thank you for acting - but you need to go one step further. Don't just veto it; reject the permit application as well and stop this pipeline once and for all!

Update #29 years ago
BIG NEWS: President Obama just vetoed the Keystone XL bill! This victory is thanks to the hard work of a giant coalition, including your signature on Care2 petitions. But the fight against the tar sands isn't over yet. This veto only blocks Congress from taking the approval process out of the president's hands. The construction permits are still pending, and it's up to the president to reject them! Tell him to do so here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/428/442/752/

The House approved the Senate's climate-killing Keystone XL bill yesterday. This was expected since the House had passed many other KXL bills before, which is why Senate passage was the big story - but it also means the bill is now officially headed to President Obama's desk. The ten-day clock for his veto has officially started ticking! Will you share this petition with your friends and family and ask them to join you in calling for a veto?
