Remember the Gulf Spill 4-20-2010

It has been a year since the Deepwater Horizon oil spill (BP oil spill) has ruck havoc on our water, beaches, businesses and total environment. It has been estimated that half of the oil is still in the water. This is easily about 20 times worse than the Exxon Valdez oil spill of 1989, even if the environmental damage wasn't as big as it was then.

BP has yet to pay the gulf side businesses and are hurting and they want to drill more! They need to step up and do more to clean up after their mistake and help the hurt businesses they have displaced.

On July 8, 2010, Florida Governor Charlie Crist called for a special session of the state legislature to draft an amendment to the state constitution banning offshore drilling in state waters, which the legislature rejected on July 20.
This year there have been efforts to get the bill on 2012's ballot. This is the time to ban offshore drilling and let Florida's legislature know that you want no more accidents to happen. We do not need more lives jeopardized in the attempt to make a quick buck.
Tell Florida Legislature to ban offshore drilling in state waters!
We the undersigned, want Florida to ban offshore drilling.
It has been one year since the BP oil spill and it is estimated that 50% still remains in the gulf. BP has made promises after promises and has yet to fulfill any. Businesses that have been displaced are still struggling with the weakened economy.

The BP oil spill is 20 times more greater than the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill, even though environmentally not as bad. Even then, thousands of marine life perished, and the offspring of the affected animals show up dead on the shore every now and again.

Back on July 8th, former Governor Charlie Crist tried to pass an amendment to the constitution to ban offshore drilling in state waters, but it did not pass.  We need it to pass in 2012, and people need to be educated about the consequences of off shore drilling.

We can find alternate forms of energy, such as wind so we don't have to be dependent on fossil fuels. We also need both the House and the Senate to come to an agreement that banning offshore drilling is wrong environmentally and economically because of the events that happened such a short time ago.

Thank you for reading this document and hope that in the future offshore drilling in state waters is illegal.
