Don't Legalize Dog Meat in Korea!

The Korean Dog Meat Association has estimated six million dogs are being bred for human consumption in South Korea. Breeding dogs for meat and selling dog meat have been illegal since 1984, but the government has been lax on enforcing laws regarding dog meat production.
In September 2012, the Korean Dog Meat Association aggressively protested for the government to officially legalize dog farms and dog meat.
Numerous studies have shown that dogs are socially more like humans than any other animal, including chimpanzees, and the natural bond between dogs and their owners cannot be denied. Unfortunately, dogs bred for human consumption in Korea are subjected to cruelty that is unacceptable for any animal.
Dogs are tightly packed in small cages where their bodies press against each other. Slaughterhouses typically kill the dogs through electrocution, but markets club the animal before boiling it while it is sometimes still alive. The traditional method is to hang dogs by the neck before beating them, as this practices release stress hormones that are thought to improve the meat's flavor and make it healthier.
Legalizing dog meat and dog farming will encourage the further mistreatment of these wonderful animals. Please sign the petition to keep dog meat illegal in Korea!

We, the undersigned, are writing in response to the Korean Dog Meat Association's efforts to legalize dog meat and dog meat farms in Korea.
