Stop demolition of historic landmark Southwest Bank Buildings

The historic landmark Southwest Bank Building was the location of a bank robbery in 1953 which was later made into a movie The Great St. Louis Bank Robbery starring Steve McQueen. The movie was actually filmed on location with some of the men and women from the St. Louis Police Department, as well as local residents and bank employees playing the same parts as they were in the bank robbery.

This is part of our heritage. Act now. Help to preserve our corner of the world, our historic neighborhood icon. Sign this petition to demand that the St. Louis Preservation Board:

(1) prohibit any proposals that would lead to the demolition of the historic landmark Southwest Bank Buildings at 2301 - 2337 S. Kingshighway Blvd.

(2) Involve the Board of Directors of the Southwest Garden Neighborhood Association in any proposals to either alter or change the current zoning or use of the buildings.

The buildings are on the National Registry of Historic Places. It is important to preserve this historic icon, both for the neighborhood and for the St. Louis City. As an alternative to demolishing any of the buildings, we propose that the St. Louis Preservation Board and any future developers to consider other uses for the property.
