Save El Jefe From Trump's Wall

We've all heard about Donald Trump's fantasy wall, a proposed monstrosity that is intended to keep a few dozen enterprising Mexicans from entering the United States illegally and will cost billions to build.

Donald Trump's proposed wall is not only politically toxic, it is also predicted to harm endangered species, especially the jaguar. America's last remaining jaguar, dubbed El Jefe, will almost certainly perish if Trump builds his wall. Among the many other species endangered by this project are the bald eagle, the gray wolf, the Indian manatee, and several varieties of sea turtle.

Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act requires any new construction project launched by a federal agency to be reviewed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. However, the original border wall construction legislation included a "super-waiver" that exempted the project from the Endangered Species Act and a number of other bedrock laws. It appears that some Americans are basically willing to flout our most sacred protections just to thwart a few immigrants.

Trump and his fellow fear mongerers must be stopped. Please join me in asking Congress to pass a law explicitly prohibiting any part of the executive branch from waiving laws for the purpose of constructing a wall between the United States and a neighboring country.

Dear Members of Congress:

I was already worried about Trump's fantasy wall between America and Mexico, and now this. It appears that, if this wall actually materializes, it will endanger many beloved species of animals. They include the manatee, the sea turtle, the gray wolf, the bald eagle (yes, the bald eagle), and America's last remaining jaguar.

Please leave El Jefe in peace and pass a law explicitly prohibiting any part of the executive branch from waiving laws for the purpose of constructing a wall between the United States and a neighboring country.

Sincerely,
[Your name]
