End Cruelty of Russia's National Symbol.

  • by: Elke Hutto

This petition is posted Jan. 8, 2014 and encourages individuals to send emails to Russian President Vladimir Putin from now on urging animal protection laws be established.Correspondence should be sent starting today before the start of the Olympics in Sochi, Russia Feb. 7. Please sign the petition so there is a sense of how many people respond.

The brown bear is one of the national symbols of Russia according to NATIONAL SYMBOLS.COM. Yet some of the animals are living in hell on earth.. The ones used in the 1980 Olympics were kept for undetermined time in carts outside of Moscow according to an article on www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/08/02/russia-

That's a far cry from the portrayal of a happy Misha mascot of the 1980 Olymics.

It also has come to light, in another Care2 petition,  that the animals, some retired circus performers,  are used as bait in dog training. Four Paws a rescue organization is working on the issue.

Coincidentally Russian Prime Minister, and former president, Dmitry Medvedeev's name means bear in Russian, according to Russian Rail.

Update #110 years ago
I originally thought to just run the petition asking those who sign it to send emails, twitters make notes on Facebook, while the Olympics were underway. However, in light of he fact that it seems the Russians have outsourced those functions to, perhaps a US PR firm, I think we should keep it up. Let me know how you feel.
Thanks for all your support,
Elke and the gang
