Katimavik
. It's an Inukitut word that means "meeting place". And now this meeting place that has brought so many together and strengthened the country has had it's funding dropped.

My aim: We can get together and reassure the Harper Government that we as Canadians cherish this great opportunity and will continue to far into the future. After all, we are talking about our strength as a country, the strength that has been solidified into our youth.

Please sign this petition to show that you wish the Harper Government to re-instate the funding for Katimavik.

Katimavik is a "place" where thousands, including myself, have discovered all the beauty of Canada and it's Canadians for 35 years. Where once stigma resided it becomes replaced with companionship!

This organization, previously funded by the Canadian Government, changed my life. And now the 2012 budget has pushed it aside.

How did it change my life?

I was fresh out of highschool and uncertain as to what to do or where to go, my whole life was in front of me.

My family suggested Katimavik. Katimavik was a stranger to me, even though I had heard my aunts talking about it before I was unsure that this is what I should do. The program would not further my official education nor would it pay me (much). So, after many stories shared by people online and through my family I decided to go.

Best Decision of My LIFE!

I met a large group of amazing people that were bound to become a large part of my life. A second family if you will.

These people are what make Katimavik important.

Where I once I had reservations towards certain groups in Canada, they were replaced by cherished relationships. Instantly I realized that these people make Canada a strong country.

We commend diversity. We encourage leadership.
We help to grow a strong moral consciousness.

These are the goals and benefits of the Katimavik Organzation.

Ok, ok. So lets put aside the fact that this volunteer organization helps our youth and strengthen our country.

How about we look into what it does right off the hop?

Katimavik sends it's volunteers across the country to lend a helping hand to any business that will have them. That's right, free labour. Heck, I even helped organize a network of computers and applied software to make a business run more efficiently. I did this for free. Something that would cost possibly thousands of dollars was done by someone who just wanted to help his fellow Canadian.

So lets picture a group as large as Katimavik, if I have my figures right there are over 1,000 volunteers spread across the country, helping people for free! Helping the elderly, helping communities to look into cheap, alternative, eco friendly ways to achieve their goals, helping families with chores and sandwich making.

Doesn't that sound like it's worth it?

So please, take a look at some of the links I will provide and look at what signing your name to this petition will do.

Thank you so much for your attention!

Katimavik.

Dear Prime Minister Stephen Harper,

This message is in support of petitioning the budget cut to the Katimavik Organization funding in the 2012 Candian Budget.

I believe Katimavik is a very important program and should not be cut anytime in the near future.

I want Katimavik funding to be reinstated immediatly.

Katimavik is too valuable a program to all Canadians to be cancelled.

Our country and youth deserve Katimavik.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.
