Help Protect Cats on Long Island, New York at Mercy Hospital, Rockville Centre!

The following is written by Fran L.127 and taken from her petition, "Help Protect Cats on Long Island, New York" from www.petitionspot.com.png  Even while feral cat groups have organized and grown, many individual caregivers have been harassed and cited for their community service. Some have even dropped from view to care for the cats in secret for safety’s sake, which is what is happening on the premises of Mercy Medical Center located in Rockville Center, Long Island, New York.
The employees who care for the colonies do so out of regard for life and the understanding that we, the human community are responsible for the overpopulation of stray and feral cats. Irresponsible pet ownership has led us down this path and the colony caretakers have graciously stepped-up and taken responsibility on behalf of all of us.

Two small colonies have been fed on Mercy Medical Center property for more than 8 years. The cats, numbering less than 20 in total, rely on daily feeding to survive. All of the cats are spay/neutered, ear notched, tested, vaccinated and in good overall health.

Mercy Medical Center's security and administrative personnel are threatening the feeders with job termination. The lives of the cats are in jeopardy. If the feeders cannot feed, the cats will starve.

I propose that Mercy Medical Center accept the feral colonies and agree to allow caretakers to provide the nourishment the cats have come to depend on.

Further, I propose Mercy Medical Center create a formal policy establishing written documentation that feeding is permited.

The lives of the cats and feeders hang in the balance.

Since that petition is not getting enough attention, I am putting that information here and hoping a Care2 petitionsite petition will help bring more attention to the matter and to her petition.
Please, keep in mind the following:The cats are all spayed and neutered. They are tested, vaccinated and their ears are notched. they number less than 20 cats total. There is no reason at all to stop allowing volunteers to feed them. These cats cannot reproduce. The colony is under control. The cats will starve to death without their human caretaker's help; these cats are used to human help for the past 8 years. It would be abusive to allow these innocent cats to suffer. It is equally cruel to not allow the caretakers, the employees who were helping the cats, to continue to do so at risk of losing their jobs.
PLEASE sign BOTH PETITIONS.
Thank you.
