It has come to the attention of the theatre students, particularly those involved in Advanced Theatre and productions in the past, that a new instructor will be hired to replace Mrs. Nichols in the job of teaching Advanced Theatre and running the productions put on by CWHS. We, as a percentage of the student body, have a few objections. We understand that new faces may be good for our school, but we would like to suggest the new teacher take the position of Theatre 1. We work very well with Mrs. Nichols, and our productions are always a success. We fear that adapting to a new instructor will put unecessary stress on us and our department. Additionally, students often select Theatre 1 as an elective because they require a fine art, not because they are interested in the art of Theatre. We feel that giving the position of Theatre 1, and leaving the productions and Advanced Theatre to a more experienced instructor, will lower our stress levels and allow us, the students that are serious about theatre, to have more successful productions. We understand that Mrs. Nichols will remain the Theatre 1 instructor, but the students that are serious about the art more than likely are in the Advanced Theatre courses and participate in the after school productions.
We strongly urge the leaders of our school to take our thoughts into consideration before finalizing the decision to remove Mrs. Nichols from Advanced Theatre and the productions.
