You can be fined $500 per day per child if your kids miss 3 days of school. A 5 day vacation will cost a family of 5: $7,500.00 plus court costs!!!!
I took my children to see Grandma & Grandpa for Thanksgiving this year. They had not seen the kids since January of this year because they live in Ohio. Since I am new to the company, my boss had the week leading up to thanksgiving off. That left the week after for me. I contacted the school in advance to make them aware and also ask for homework in advance, which they did not provide. The attendance coordinator told me that would be fine, "You should not windup in court over that." I though she was joking.
After we returned I received a letter informing me that I had to present myself before the Truancy Officer to justify our actions or face class C criminal charges.
This has nothing to do with education promotion. It is a point blank abuse of power. They are even pulling my Daughter out of school to talk about how important it is for her to be in school.
Responsible parents should be able to take their children out of town without the threat of a court battle. My parents from time to time took me out of town when I was growing up and I still have a college degree and a great career!
