Athletic Director (AD) Allison Fondale has removed Coach Johnny Poss as the Head Coach of Saint Mary's Varsity Baseball Team. She has done so mid season, right after the Easter holiday with obvious little thought on how his impacts our children.
Coach Poss is one of the winningest coaches in high school sports. Poss, who was in his sixth year coaching the Saints, compiled a 123-28 record during his time, which included back-to-back Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference championships, including a 27-1 record in 2014 when the Saints won their first title. The Saints moved up to the A Conference after winning their second straight title in 2015. Poss played at DeMatha Catholic High and Winthrop University before playing minor league baseball from 1998-2002
Coach Poss is a man who has done nothing but work tirelessly over the last six years to turn Saint Mary's Baseball into a successful program for our children to thrive in on and off the field. During his tenure as coach he has fielded several honor roll students, assisted children with college goals and ensured that integrity of the program by ensuring his players did not receive any significant disciplinary actions for their behavior. Johnny treated every child as well as parents and support staff as family.
Coach Johnny Poss needs to be reinstated as Saint Mary's Head Varsity Immediately. Johnny was an exceptional role model for our children as he provided a positive atmosphere for the kids to learn and succeed. Johnny was like a father figure to several of the children on the team and they look to him for guidance.
We owe it to the program, to the Saint Mary's community and most importantly to our children to make this happen. Our voices need to be heard and it's the foundation of our principles to listen and make decisions on what's best for them.
Coach Poss's dedication to the Saint Mary's School was directly responsible for our sports team being ranked #1 by the Baltimore Sun. He put our interests and our children's interests before his own. It's time for us to put Coach Poss as #1 in our hearts and ensure our voices are heard.
