Tell Trump: Stop the Inhumane Treatment of Migrant Children & Adults

There are gross human rights violations happening right here in the United States, at the hands of the federal government. Among other reports, there was a 2-year-old boy without a diaper who had soiled himself and hadn't been changed into clean clothing, kids who hadn't bathed in weeks, and children under the age of ten who were tasked with taking care of toddlers. Many facilities have inadequate supplies of food, water and sanitation for the infants, children and young adults.

While children are being held in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions across the country, the Trump administration is arguing in court that the federal government does not have to provide basic items such as soap and toothbrushes, and that it is acceptable to have these young children sleep on cold concrete floors in low temperatures.

Throughout the last four years, over 20 people lost their lives while being detained in centers across the country, including seven children. Physicians have witnessed the conditions in these facilities and describe them as "unsafe for adults and deadly for children." Migrants, including children, are sleeping outside in the grass and rocks with thermal blankets. Despite that fact, almost 15,000 children are currently in immigration detention centers across the country.

The health of any human being should never be placed at risk. Detention centers should not be places where migrants', and young children's, lives are in danger; at no moment should these places become sites of human rights violations.
