Justice For The Forgotten Dog

An emaciated dog, denied shelter and subjected to frigid temperatures, was discovered frozen to the ground in Memphis, Tenn.

According to Wednesday's Commercial Appeal, the dog, described as a pit bull, was dead, its body frozen to the ground, when authorities made the pitiful discovery in the backyard of a home in the 2700 block of Smith Haven.

Arrested for the crime was dog's owner, 28-year-old Zangerio Dogan.

Now, the dog who was seemingly forgotten and left to suffer unbearable cruelty, is the subject of a he said, she said situation.

Zangerio Dogan alleges that his sister was caring for the dog, and that he had not seen the dog in weeks.

His sister told the authorities that she believed that her brother had taken the dog and was caring for it.

The dog's starved and frozen body was found in the sister's back yard. How or why she did not notice the dog who was in her own yard remains a mystery.

No word on charges against that woman.

A man was arrested Tuesday after police found his dog dead and frozen to the ground outside his sister's Memphis home.

Officers reported finding a dead pit bull of unknown age at a home in the 2700 block of Smith Haven near Pendleton. The dog was frozen to the ground in the backyard after icy winter weather moved through the area.

It was unclear what killed the dog, or how long it had been dead. The pit bull appeared to be extremely malnourished, according to a police affidavit, and did not have appropriate shelter or food.

The homeowner told police she thought her brother picked up the dog weeks ago, according to the affidavit. After the brother was located, he told police he thought his sister was caring for the animal, and that he hadn't seen or fed the dog in weeks.

Zangerio Dogan, 28, was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.

Bond for Dogan had not been set early Wednesday morning.

We the petition signers want to see full justice given to everyone responsible for the horrible suffering and death that this dog went through. There is no excuse that anyone can give as to why this happened. And justice must be served for this dog.
