Speed Bump for 14th Ave SW, Decatur, Alabama

A speed bump is desperately needed on 14th Ave SW, Decatur, Alabama. This is a residential neighborhood that is off of Westmeade across from Austin High School and the large church beside the high school which has a lot of traffic that flows onto 14th Ave SW. We have had problems with people speeding down this road all the time and driving wrecklessly through here at all hours of the day. This is a residential neighborhood, highly populated with children who play outside almost everyday. We called and asked the city to put a speed bump on this road and they put a monitoring cable across the road for about 24 hours. As I sat outside with my four year old son who was playing, I watched as people saw the cable and slowed down for the cable every time. Even people who normally fly through here bc I guess they were afraid a police officer might be watching. Shortly after that we received a letter stating that our request was denied. On March 15, 2013 I was sitting outside with a family memeber talking and we were watching my son and our small dog play outside when two cars full of teenagers pulled up side by side, talking, laughing and cutting up for about 5 to 10 minutes blocking both sides of the road, then they started spinning their tires and proceeded to drag race down 14th Avenue SW, in the middle of the day. I called 911 and reported the incident and a police officer came out and got our information and description of the vehicles. This has got to stop, someone is going to get hurt and it will probably be a child. Please sign this petition for this very important speed bump and help protect our children and animals. People driving at those speeds down a residential road could skid off the road and run into someones yard and hit a child or worse more than one child.
