CALIFORNIANS DESERVE TO KNOW HOW THE ASSEMBLY SPENDS OUR MONEY!

We, the undersigned, demand that detailed information on how the California State Assembly spends its $146 million operating budget be made available to the public.

Assembly Speaker John Perez’ claims that such information is not subject to the requirements of the Legislative Open Records Act are not consistent with the principles of an open, transparent government process. His recent denial of Assemblymember Anthony Portantino’s request for an accounting of the assembly’s operating budget underscores a basic disconnect between the principles and practices of the Assembly leadership.

The public has a fundamental right to know how government spends all of its funds.

We demand that the California State Assembly give a complete and thorough accounting of how all 80 assembly members are spending our taxpayer money.
